Chapter 2
Seira's POV
(Flashback)
I walked behind the man in the pink suit who was showing me around his mansion, my new "home". I scanned every detail and took in the grand estate, seeing me awestruck he smiled and spoke to me "This is all yours, however, I'm am afraid there is a catch. First off, you are not allowed to leave the grounds. Second..." he stopped in his tracks and I bumped into him. "do not think of me as a father... I am merely a... collector. Simply think of our relationship like this, you are like a... goldfish to me, I enjoy watching you swim about with your shiny golden scales but I find no other interest in you." I lowered my head and nodded glumly but he chuckled and began moving forward again "But do remember that even though I may not love you, you are still my responsibility and I would be quite upset to see you... go belly up, shall we say?" I rose my head again and nodded soon running to catch up with him.
I snapped out of the sudden memory and stared at the closed door in front of me. I sighed, knocked twice, and entered before someone could tell me to. "Ah Seira, where have you been?" he spoke sarcastically, "Shut up..." I replied before sitting down in one of his velveteen chairs that were faced to his desk. He chuckled and I decided to continue "You know very well where the hell I was! I got kidnapped and what did you do about it? Oh yeah, nothing!"
"Oh so that's what happened to you! I just thought you had shut yourself in your room again. Since we never see each other even when you are here and not being dragged around by a gang of possessed humans." He chuckled as I grumbled at his point and sunk into the chair, crossing my arms. "Yeah whatever, and I already know what you're gonna say next so just don't say it." Mephisto rested his head on one of his hands and leaned in curiously "Really, do tell then?" I scoffed at him "You're going to tell me that "this is why we don't leave here!" and then you'll go through the whole goldfish thing and whatnot!"
I saw his eyebrow rise in amusement before he laughed and said, "Actually it's quite the opposite!" I looked at him in surprise and was about to make a smart remark but I was interrupted by his finger being lifted in front of my face. "I was going to say that this is an obvious sign that you should learn how to protect yourself more. Your powers are strong, but obviously they're not enough to keep you out of harms way."
I stared at him pondering what he could possibly have up his sleeve "So starting tomorrow you will be attending school." he held out a manila folder the was stuffed with papers and pamphlets, I snatched it out of his grasp and opened it to see the picture of what seemed to be a very high up campus.
"True Cross Academy?" I read out loud, "Yes," he replied "I happen to be the principal and an administrator to the Cram school there." "Cram school?" I asked still looking through the selection of curriculum courses and credit requirements and such, becoming quite stressed at the idea of going to a real school.
"Yes, the whole point of going to True Cross Academy is so that you can attend the Cram school. There you can learn more about demons and how to ward them off and protect yourself. I do believe it will be most enjoyable for you!" I narrowed my eyes at him "What's the catch?".
He grinned wider and tapped his gloved fingers on his desk still cradling his head, "Why would there be a catch my pet?" I felt the corners of my mouth rise to form a sly smile,
"There's always a catch..."
Rin's POV
I could see something, a faint distant light. I ran in the darkness trying to follow the sliver of sun before it would leave me with no one but myself, it became closer and closer until I was able to realize that it wasn't a light, it was a small girl. I slowed my pace and saw that the light swam around her as she walked calmly and kicked at the ground as if there were tiny invisible stones to kick. I was out of breath but I tried to approach her, she spun suddenly sending her hair flying in a curtain of fire and light, she looked no older than five or six, so why was it that she looked so familiar? Her big amber eyes looked into my blue ones while her orange hair flicked and spun about, framing her small happy face. She smiled up at me and begin to laugh, then I heard her speak in a singsong voice "You know, since neither of us have any friends we should stick together..." she reached her hand out to me and I stepped back to avoid her light shining to close to my eyes. "Just because we aren't the same doesn't mean we can't be friends, right?" her voice rang through my mind like a melody of birds and bells, it vibrated through my soul and eliminated all traces of fear or doubt. Then I heard another voice "Yeah, I guess..." "Good, but I get to choose what we do together!" "What! No fair!" the voice spoke again. The girl laughed again and began to run ahead again, but this time she was followed by someone, a small boy ran out from behind me and chased after her. The boy was a mini-me, back from when I was seven, "Seira! Wait up!" I called to her only to have her laugh some more and answer back "Come on Rin! Your dad is making Sukiyaki!" My younger self growled and shouted behind her "That's a lie and you know it!" and then I was able to realize what I was seeing. It was a memory, my memory.
