Chapter 3

Seira's POV

I turned on the light to my dorm room, I had it all to myself but it was only big enough for a single bed and ceiling fan. It was in an abandoned building on campus that's not open to other students, but Mephisto made an exception for me of course.

I didn't mind the size since it cost the least and was the farthest away from anyone, I had decided while choosing things for school that I was going to try to break myself away from Mephisto's support and guidance. After all, he's not going to keep his interest in me forever and I need to get used to being out on my own again.

I threw my books down in a corner that had all of my paperwork and homework, including make-up tests and assignments from almost every teacher. I definitely was not going to the cram school until I could get my normal schoolwork under control; exhausted I collapsed on my crappy bed and rested my eyes. I felt a buzz come from the phone in my pocket, I took it out to see the flashing message.

Ugh, Mephisto! I read over the message and scoffed at each smily and winky face he put, "How are you liking school so far ;)?" I read out loud, "Well if you want to hang out with all of the new "friends" you've made you should go to the little shindig I've put together. But this time please follow dress code and wear a nice outfit! And don't forget to get a mask, it is a masquerade! -M"

I groaned and buried my face back into the saggy furniture. I guess I might as well go... I eyed the pile of books and stray papers, it's not like I have anything else better to do... but where the hell am I going to get a dress? I sat up and looked around my "broom closet" of a room to see if I had anything to work with. I spotted some old silk curtains hanging from my only window so I walked over and inspected them, they weren't too dirty and the fabric was nice.

I ripped them off and pulled my small sewing kit I've had since I was little out of one of my suitcases, I threaded a needle and started to do what I had learned back when I lived in the orphanage. All of the girls there had to learn to sew and basic necessity stuff, I happened to be the best sewer but since I was terrible at everything else nobody was impressed with my skill.

The masquerade would start at eight so I had several hours to finish this and put together some kind of mask, no problem, I thought. Unfortunately I didn't take into consideration that Rin might be there and I arrived on time without a worry. Great...

Rin's POV

I stood next to Sheimi in her butterfly mask that suited her well and looked around to see what everyone else decided on. Bon wore a lion mask, Shima a peacock, Konekomaru an owl, and Yukio a wolf. I chose to wear a black cat mask that resembled Kuro because I could finally put my useless tail to good use.

Yukio soon came over and stole Sheimi away for a dance and I was the only guy on the floor without a girl under his arm. I walked around trying to play cool to get some girl, any girl to dance with me, I had eventually made it wall to wall with no luck of wooing anyone and I sat in a chair that was set aside near a table full of food.

That's when I spotted her.

Her bright hair that spilled over her shoulder made her stand out among the crowd of people, and her dress made her look far more extravagant compared to the girls who all wore matching ones.

It was unmistakeable that the girl was Seira.

Her dress was white with vertical silken stripes, it was strapless and went halfway past her knees but the back swooped lower and was scrunched into curl-like bunches. Her mask framed her face perfectly and was covered in long feathers that climbed off the sides of her mask like two bird wings, but her extraordinary eyes is what caught everyone's attention the most.
