Delilah's POV
Enjoy! x
My eyes have gone all red and puffy, selfish tears leaking down my blouse. I feel so stupid and childish, running away when my sister is unable to.
I let the kitten scurry out of my grasp and escape to the safety of its bed, wishing I could do the same.
I snivel as I wipe my eyes gingerly, looking up momentarily to see him, standing at the entrance, knuckles red from running, panting heavily.
His shirt is clung to his chest with sweat, eyes soft and kind, like they always are.
I can't get up; glued to the floor because of my trembling legs.
I find myself bursting into tears as he meets my gaze, my eyes streaming like polluted waterfalls.
His arms are around me in seconds, pulling me into his jacket protectively, hands supporting my quaking shoulders which are shuddering violently.
"I'm sorry." I grovel, nose running all down his sky blue shirt.
"Don't, don't say that." he whispers into my hair, but I continue to say it, over and over and over again, feeling so helpless and needy, guilty and regretful all at once.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry," I splutter, breaths short and ragged, my ribcage feeling awfully tight and claustrophobic. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry," and I know I'm not only apologising for running away, but for everything.
And then I realise that he is crying too, quietly into my hair.
I pull away from his chest, cheeks soaked, a kitten trying to get in between us.
I snivel again, before wiping his eyes dry and brushing back his hair. "Please don't cry." I whisper.
He catches my wrists in his hands, stroking my knuckles gently with his thumb. "Only if you promise to."
:-:-:-:
"I'm trusting you to be on your best behaviour." I mutter, pulling on my smart blazer and tugging on a pair of boots.
"Yeah, yeah... It's just dinner... I don't get why you're so stressed!" Si positions himself behind me in front of the mirror, fixing his hair as I repair my eyeliner.
"It's more than 'just dinner' and you know it."
Sian got discharged six months ago, and now, we're going for dinner with her... And her new boyfriend - fiancé, the fit surgeon from the hospital.
He kisses my hair gently with a smile, "I know, I'm just teasing Dee."
I pout and shove him out the way, "I can't concentrate when all I can see is you faffing about with your hair!" I grumble, wiping away my eyeliner and attempting to reapply it more neatly.
Reluctantly, he steps to the side, but pointedly peers down at his watch.
"Doing that won't make me finish any quicker." I narrow my eyes at him, moving onto my second wing.
"What's his name again? Zac? Jason? Taylor?" Simon pokes fun, finding his comment very amusing.
"Philip actually."
He rolls his eyes and tugs me away from the mirror, "You look beautiful, okay? We really need to go!"
I was shocked when Si suggested we go out with Sian and Phillip, not expecting him to want to spend time with them particularly, but happy that he thought of it. He even bought me a new dress; nothing special or pricey, just something smart that I don't also have to wear to work. It's just a simple black off the shoulder bodycon dress with very stretchy material so I can eat as much as I want at the restaurant tonight without feeling restricted!
