Dog and Wolf

Chapter 1: Not alone

Sirius was in the dorm room by himself at the beginning of 5th year. Remarkably, only James and Peter had managed to get detention and Sirius wasn't even involved...of course, that's what the professors thought. 

Sirius was getting changed out of his robes and into his pyjamas when Remus exited the bathroom. 

"Hey Re. Forgot you were still in there." Sirius smiled. 

Remus nodded, grunting slightly in response. He didn't look at Sirius at all but made his way to his bed and started to get changed. 

"Remus?" Sirius questioned. "You ok?" 

Remus made the mistake of looking up at Sirius. Goddamn Sirius looked good. The way the moonlight coming in from the window highlighted his raven hair perfectly. Oh, and how his grey eyes lit up. But, no, the concern on his face. The small line between his eyebrows. He'd noticed of course, he noticed my silence. "Huh? I'm fine, Sirius, it's ok." Remus replied. 

Sirius tilted his head. "Hmm." He looked outside. "Tomorrow night? Yeah...I see." 

"Sirius, don't-" Remus began. 

Sirius went over. "Listen, mate, I can't show you now but...tomorrow, you won't be alone." 

"W-what do you mean? No one can join me, I'll hurt you." Remus stated nervously. 

"Don't worry. You'll understand." Sirius smiled.

The next afternoon Remus was feeling very weak and ill. 

"Remus, we've uh, got something to show you." James announced after taking Remus to the Shrieking Shack. 

"We're staying here with you." Peter stated quickly. 

"What!? No! Guys, you can't!" Remus exclaimed, looking concerned and scared for his best friends. "Don't know if you noticed but werewolves aren't cuddly!" 

Sirius smiled. "Oh but you're the cuddliest we've ever seen. And we can stay. Peter, if you please." Sirius smirked. Why does his smirk have to be so damn cute!? 

Remus looked at Peter. Peter, all of a sudden, was a rat. Remus was astounded. "Wha-" But before he could finish his exclamation James had popped into a stag beside the rat. Remus' words got choked in his mouth just as Sirius turned into a dog. 

"An-animagi?!" Remus exclaimed. "You've...you're animagi!" 

Sirius, the dog, wagged his tail. 

Remus didn't know what to say. "You're animals! Wait...you mean...you're staying with me...like this? Presumably because you realised werewolf bites don't affect animals in the same way?" 

The animals made some form of agreement by the noises they made; Sirius a bark, Peter a small squeak, and James a slight grunt. 

"You...you became Animagi to...to...s-stay with me?" Remus asked, his throat dry. The sun was going down as the moon swallowed it. "I...you guys...I don't know what to say...this is amazing..."  Remus said, his voice becoming hoarse and cracking. "No one...no one has ever...this much trouble..." He fully broke down now, even falling to his knees, his hand over his mouth and his eyes filled with happy tears. 

The rat popped back into Peter and he went over and put a hand on Remus' shoulder. 

The stag became James again and came over. He knelt down beside Remus. "Don't mention it, mate. It was fun." 

Sirius stayed as a dog and came and sat in front of Remus. Sirius saw the full moon beginning to peek in through the clouds. 

Remus wrapped his arms around the dog's neck, crying into his black fur. However, his crying soon turned into an outcry of pain, causing James and Peter to turn back into a stag and rat while Sirius stayed close to comfort his friend in this painful time, letting Remus pull on his fur as tightly as he needed.

Remus soon had to let go as his skin practically ripped to let the werewolf out. Sirius, James and Peter stood by, all worried about their best friend, making sure he knew they were there and that he wasn't doing this alone. 

Sirius' tail was still and he was so worried. How could something so horrible happen to someone so amazing and perfect?! He thought. Poor Remus...all that pain...I swear i will always be there, no matter what, to keep him as safe as he needs to be. 

The werewolf let out a few moans of pain but then looked up at the animal companions he had. Sirius slowly approached. Son the werewolf seemed to accept that these creatures weren't out to hurt him.

James, Peter and Sirius were back to human form and Remus was lying naked on the floor, in pain, the sunlight leaking through all the cracks in the rickety wooden walls. 

James collected a blanket from the bed and put it over Remus. 

Sirius and Peter were nearby, watching. James and Peter went to leave. 

"Madame Pomfrey will be coming soon." James stated. "Come on Sirius. We'll see him later." James was also reluctant to go but knew that Pomfrey could be there any second. His eyes kept darting towards Remus to make sure he was ok. 

Sirius looked at James. "Go ahead. I'll join you later." 

"If Pomfrey catches you-" Peter began. 

"I'll be fine. You know me." Sirius said monotonously. James and Peter nodded and walked away, down the tunnel and back to school. Sirius looked at Remus and sat down in front of him. He moved the hair out of Remus' face. Gorgeous..absolutely perfect.

Remus stirred. "...Sirius?" 

"It's ok, Re. How do you feel?" Sirius asked with a concerned look. 

"Hurts...everywhere..." Remus stated feebly. 

Sirius stroked his hand lovingly up and down Remus' side. No...i'm just being friendly...no love. But then Remus' eyes opened. Sirius became slightly overwhelmed. Remus' powerful eyes were filled with pain. Sirius didn't know what to do. 

Remus moved a hand towards Sirius. "Thank you...s-so much...I didn't feel...s-so a-alone." 

Sirius smiled. "That's ok Remmy." 

Remus smiled weakly, his mouth barely changing shape due to feeling so drained. He closed his eyes. "You'd better go..." 

Sirius was reluctant but did agree that Pomfrey would be here any minute. "I'll see you Remmy..." Sirius said, about to stand up. He somehow couldn't get his goddamn butt off the floor. 

Finally he stood. Remus had his eyes closed still. 

Sirius finally convinced himself to move his feet and he was soon back at school.

This may not have been amazing but I ship Remus and Sirius so much and I had to write this.
