3 years agoBlack heels clicked against the concrete sidewalk, an echoing sound emitting into the frigid air. Another sound could be heard, a slight sob from an alley nearby.
The brown haired girl wearing the heels, Stefanie, turned her head. Her eyes caught sight of where the sound was coming from and started her walk over there. Stefanie peeked around the brick wall, slightly startled by the sight.
A young girl held another girl in her arms, her hand pressed against her stomach. Tears slipped from her eyes and her body racked with every sob. The girl's other hand was stroking the black and blue haired girl's cheek, her hands shaking.
"Do you need help ma'am?" Stefanie asked, her tone soft. She walked over to the two girls. Stefanie could see the red liquid staining the younger girl's hand and sped up her pace.
She kneeled next to the two girl's, swiping a knife out from the pocket of her black jacket. Stefanie wasted no time and cut off a piece of gray fabric from her t-shirt. She delicately moved the tan hand from the wound and pressed the cloth to it.
"Lay her flat," Stefanie's voice was sharp and focused, commanding the small girl to follow her orders which she did. The gray color turned red from blood and Stefanie knew she had to act fast.
She reached a manicured hand into her black bag, grabbing a roll of gauze. She would clean the wound later. Her hands worked quickly and skillfully as she wrapped the gauze tightly around the girl's abdomen.
"So what's your name, kid?" Stefanie asked. She stood up, brushing off her blue jeans now spotted in blood. Stefanie offered a hand to the young girl who was still kneeling on the cold floor.
"Emily. My name's Emily," She said, looking up a Stefanie with her brown, tear-filled eyes. She brought her hand out slightly and hesitated for a second before she grabbed Stefanie's hand.
Emily was yanked to her feet by the brown- haired girl. With one glance, Stefanie knew neither girl had a home or family. Both of the girls were dirty and scrawny, their hair greasy and matted.
"My name's Stefanie," She introduced. Stefanie reached a hand into her jacket pocket and grabbed her phone, scrolling down until she found the correct contact.

She clicked on the name and call, waiting for the ringing to stop.
"Ri? Yeah hey, I need you to pick me up. I'm at," Stefanie paused, going out to the dark street, "Churchill Street, in between ButterflyNet and Coffee & Toffee. Thanks, see you in a bit."
