I head up to the roof at lunchtime and see Maaka and Usui already there, they were already eating their lunches as I walked over.
"Hey, I can see why you come up here, it's so nice and sunny, quiet too," I smile.
"Lilith, you're here," Maaka says.
"Akane, come have lunch with us," Usui says.
I walk over to them, "I don't really have a lunch, I don't have the money to buy groceries just yet," I say before spotting a bat with a white star on its forehead so I shoo it away, "Daddy, I can take care of myself, you don't have to watch me every second of the day, get some sleep."
I watch the bat fly away and I sigh, my father is a bit overprotective at times.
"Your dad watches you too?" Maaka asks.
I sigh again, "Yeah, but I gotta love him," I say, "My dad's bats all have a white star on their forehead, my little sister's have a white teardrop on one of their cheeks, my mom and big brother couldn't care less about me," I laugh a little.
"It's kind of the same in my family, my dad and little sister worry about me the most," Maaka says.
I laugh a little, "Is that so? Hey, Usui, I'm guessing Maaka told you about me," I say, "Since you haven't told her secret and you seem so devoted to protecting her, I'm sure I can trust you with my secret too."
"Sure, if your blood increases then I could help you hide and clean up afterwards if you have a nosebleed," he says.
I smile, "It doesn't happen often so don't worry too much, I still don't know my blood's affinity though," I say.
"If it doesn't happen often then it must not be too common," Maaka says.
"Do you know what yours is?" I ask her leaning against the wall next to her.
"It's unhappiness," she says.
"Wow, that's almost everywhere, it must be tough," I say, "I saw the woman you bit in the park, she was saying something about finding a better man for her."
"Wait, Karin, you bit someone else?" Usui asks her.
"I'm sorry, Kenta, I couldn't help it, you weren't around and I was about to burst. I'm sorry," she says, pressing the tips of her pointer fingers together.
Usui sighs, "I guess it couldn't be helped, I just worry about you is all," he says and rubs the back of his head.
"Wait, are you two...? I thought you were just friends, how do you make your relationship work?" I ask.
"Well, um, it's a little complicated since she's an un-vampire," Usui says.
"He doesn't like it when I bite anyone besides him," Maaka says and leans into him as they both blush.
I chuckle softly, "I'm a little jealous, I wasn't really able to keep my relationship with a human, he said it was because he was scared of me and my family since we're vampires," I laugh a little, "It was a stupid relationship anyways, my blood would always react around him but I refused to bite him because I was afraid that he'd see me as a monster, he did anyways. In the end my sister, Anji erased his memory of ever meeting me and we moved here, it was really my fault," I say, as I feel tears flowing over my cheeks. I wipe them away and chuckle softly, "Sorry, you probably don't care about all that, I was just a dumb little girl after all. I'm gonna go back to class," I say and rush off before they could say anything.
The day went by quickly and I worked silently except when I took orders, I kind of avoided Maaka and Usui, I changed quickly when my shift was over then rushed out as fast as I could so I wouldn't have to talk to them.
