With all the thoughts that were swirling in my head, I ended up sleeping at 3 in the morning.
But even though I barely had 5 hours of sleep, I woke up the next morning with a smile on my face. Not even the blinding sunlight streaming through my windows could damper my mood.
You know why I was in such a good mood? Because today was Friday! I mentally did my happy dance as I chose my clothes for the day.
Friday meant that it was finally the weekend and I can relax from a tiring week of school. Plus, Lucy said that she was coming tomorrow, during the weekend.
I still can't believe that she's going to be staying here and that she's going to my school. That is so exciting!
I finish getting ready for school and head downstairs for some breakfast, the most important meal of the day!
Mmmm. I smell pancakes!
I walk in the kitchen to find my mom finish a fresh batch of hot pancakes.
"'Morning, honey. How many do you want?" She asked me, while placing a kiss on my forehead.
"Good morning, mom. And two, please."
She handed me a plate with two pancakes. I added maple syrup with butter and scarfed down the fluffy goodness.
"Thanks mom. Did Aaron leave already?"
"Yep. He said he had to get some things done early at school today."
"Oh, okay." I checked the time at my phone. 7:35 am.
I was earlier than I usually was so I decided to wait for Anna and Marcus outside.
"I'll be off to school now." I grabbed my bag from the floor, gave my mom a quick kiss on the cheek, and went out the door.
Surprisingly, Anna and Marcus were already there, waiting for me.
"Hey, guys!" I greeted.
"Hey!" Anna said as I hugged her.
I looked towards Marcus. I was a bit cautious because I didn't know if he was still in his 'mood'.
"Where's my hug, Monnie?" Marcus asked in mock hurt.
He seemed to be over whatever was on his mind. Still, I asked. "Are you okay now?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." He replied cheerily as he started walking to school.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Anna asked him as we both fell into step beside him.
"Not really..I'm not ready to tell you guys yet." He said.
Marcus was never this secretive. He would usually tell us everything. Or sometimes, when it was really personal, he would confide in me. That's why I was a bit hurt that he didn't want to tell us anything.
He must have seen the wounded expression on my face because he hastily added. "I'm not ready to tell anyone, yet. You guys will be the first to know."
I was worried about him. The last time he was this secretive was during the seventh grade when his grandmother died. He was really close to Nana Claire.
Did someone in his family die? I hope not. Hopefully, they're all alive and well..
I must have been lost in my thoughts for a while because the next thing I knew, Anna and Marcus were saying bye and heading to their first period.
**
I walked into my 4th period class, Spanish. Sadly, it's the only class that I share with Marcus. I walk over to the middle row where we usually sit. Marcus was already slouched on the chair, probably dozing off, trying to catch a few minutes of sleep.
