*Brrring! Brrring!* Edie's alarm clock screeched at her, as she hit snooze for maybe the fourth time. All she wanted was to get back to the dream she was having. She was in a stadium, watching the final round of a Pokémon match. Each trainer had only one Pokémon left, the man on the far end was down to his Nidorino, and his opponent was battling with just his Gengar. Both Pokémon were low on health, one more blow would have dealt either creature in. The Nidorino was rushing at the Gengar, hoping to hit it with a Poison Jab attack, as the Ghost and Poison type shot a Shadow Ball towards the pure Poison type. Just before either Pokémon landed the final blow, the alarm clock rang. As she was on the brink of falling back asleep, she felt a hand shake her back and forth.
"Edie!" Her mother all but shouted, as she attempted to rouse her daughter from her slumber, "You don't want to be late for Professor Elm and your journey to becoming the fifth Grand Champion, do you?"
Edie's eyes shot open in surprise. "Oh no! I can't be late!" She gasped. Edie pulled on the first clothes clothes she saw, an old t-shirt from the Lolirock concert she went to last year, and some purple running shorts, dragged her brush through her hair, using a light pink soft headband to hold it back, and ran a finger over her teeth. After going back for socks, Edie crashed down the stairs and into the kitchen. She grabbed a piece of bread, not stopping to toast it or anything, and shoved her feet into her favorite mint colored sneakers. She ran past her mom and little brother Thomas, who was crying and asking when he could go on his own Pokémon journey. Her dad had already left for work, so Edie would have to call him later.
"Edith honey, don't forget your backpack!" Her mom held up the small pack from ClemonticGear Inc. that could hold more than a normal backpack, including a small tent! Edie had only filled hers with the essentials though, not wanting to weigh herself down.
"Thanks Mom!" She called as she threw open the front door.
"Please call when you get to New Bark Town sweetie," Edie's mother yelled after her. "I love you, be safe!"
The tall, twelve year old Edie considered grabbing her trusty bicycle, but she ultimately decided to go on foot as she didn't want to risk it getting hurt, or it not being able to go somewhere. In no time at all, Edie was in New Bark Town. After stopping to call her mom, and say a quick hi/bye to her dad, who was home for his lunch break, she continued to Professor Elm's research lab. As she reached for the door, a boy about her age with short, spiky light brown hair, a blue shirt and black shorts shoved rudely past her.
"Look where you're going," he snarled at her. Edie hardly knew what to say. He was the one who bumped into her, after all. Not the other way around! Deciding not to let it bother her, she pushed open the door.
"Hello! You must be Edie, nice to meet you. I'm Professor Elm," said a fortyish year old man in a lab coat.
"Nice to meet you," Edie replied.
"So, do you know which Pokémon you're going to pick?" The professor asked. Edie looked excited, "Yes, I've actually known for quite some time," she turned to face the three Pokémon sitting on the table behind Elm. The boy who shoved her had already chosen the Totodile, but that didn't matter to Edie. She stood in front of the Pokémon she hoped would be her partner and said, "Hello, would you like to go on my Pokémon journey with me? I'd be honored if you said yes."Hi all! I hope you enjoyed chapter 1 of my new story! Don't worry, I still plan on writing the others, but I am having a bit of writer's block there. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this story, and stay Elegant!
