"Chikorita! Use Razor Leaf!" Edie instructed her Pokémon. Chikorita unleashed the razor sharp leaves on her opponent, leaving the Pokémon a bit battered. Rotom floated over, and booted up his Pokédex device. He scanned Sentret, and read out a short description of the Pokémon. *Sentret- The Scout Pokémon. A very cautious Pokémon, it raises itself up on its tail to get a better view of its surroundings.* A cry from Chikorita reminded Edie of the battle still going on.
"Use Razor Leaf one more time!" The girl commanded, and Chikorita did as told. Edie suddenly remembered the Pokéballs Elm had given her. She grabbed one of them from her backpack and threw it toward the Sentret. The Pokéball opened up, sucked Sentret in, then fell to the ground where it shook once, shook twice, and then with a small twitch, fell still, with a small popping noise. Edie stared at the Pokéball for a moment, before what had happened fully registered. When it did, she squealed, and jumped up and down, shouting,
"I caught my first Pokémon! I caught my first Pokémon!" Then, once she calmed down, she walked over to the Pokéball, and picked it up, letting out her new friend.
"Hi Sentret, I'm Edie, nice to meet you!" Edie grinned at her new partner. "Next time you want some food though, all you have to do is ask!" Sentret smiled back, and Edie could tell Sentret was excited to be on her team. The new trainer took out another bowl and poured in some food for Sentret. After they ate, they played games, and before long, it was time for bed. They all crawled into the tent Edie had set up, and fell asleep. The next morning, Edie awoke suddenly to the sounds of heavy footsteps and snapping twigs. Could it be a Pokémon? Edie thought to herself. Grabbing a few Pokéballs and with a now awake Chikorita behind her, Edie went to investigate. But before she could get very far, she heard a distinctly non-Pokémon voice say, "Owwww!"
Edie then rushed in the direction the voice came from. It had led her to a clearing not far from the one she was in, and she saw a boy laying on his side in a bush, with a few thorns poking out of him. She hurried up to him, and grabbed his hand, pulling him up.
"Are you OK?" Edie asked, looking worried.
"Yeah, I'm fine thanks," the boy replied gruffly. Edie looked taken aback at the boy's harsh words.
"I was only trying to be nice, next time I find you lying in a bush, I won't help you," Edie grumbled.
"Wait! I really mean it. I'm sorry I said it like that. I'm really clumsy, so my first instinct is to get defensive." The boy mumbled, scuffing his shoe on the dirt.
"It's OK. Besides, it's still early in the morning. I'm Edie. I'm in the clearing over there." She pointed, "I was just about to make breakfast, want any?" The boy looked much happier, now that she'd forgiven him. "Th-that'd be nice, thanks. Name's Elliot, by the way. Nice to meet you,"
"Nice to meet you too Elliot. Where are you from?" Edie asked the boy. He had shaggy brown hair with bangs that almost covered his brown eyes. He was wearing red sweatpants and a mostly black t-shirt that had a gothish looking guy with long hair that had purple tips. Above the picture it said Jagged Stone. He was also wearing black sneakers.
"I live in Violet City with my parents and four other siblings. I'm the oldest. What about you?" Elliot answered.
"I grew up in Rustboro City in Hoenn, but I moved with my mom, my dad, and my little brother just outside of New Bark Town about six months ago." Edie said, just as they got back to her campsite. "I mostly just have cereal for now, I just started my journey, so I don't have a lot of cookable food yet."
"Nah, cereal sounds great!" Elliot looked excited. After everyone ate, Edie packed up camp, with some help from Elliot.
"So where are you headed now?" Elliot asked Edie.
"We're on our way to Cherrygrove City, actually, what about you?" Edie replied.
"I'm going to Cherrygrove too! We can go together! I-uh mean i-if you want," Elliot looked embarrassed.
"That sounds great!" Edie exclaimed.
*Timeskip to just after lunch*
"Hey, uh Edie," Elliot said abruptly. "Wanna have a battle?"
"Sure! Why not?" Edie agreed. Elliot went to one side of the clearing while she went to the other.
"I'll use my newest Pokémon, I only caught it yesterday so it will be less of a challenge for you" Elliot offered.
"Sounds good," Edie nodded, calling for Chikorita, as Elliot tossed a Pokéball into the air as he shouted, "Ledyba! Come on out!" Out popped a ladybug-like Pokémon. It's body was reddish-orange, and it looked like it had white tennis balls for feet. Edie called for Rotom to come and scan the new Pokémon, and this is what she learned; *Ledyba- The Five Star Pokémon. It is very timid. It will be afraid to move if it is alone. But it will be very active if it is in a group.*
"You may have the first move Edie," Elliot said once Rotom had finished.
"Thanks Elliot. Chikorita, use Razor Leaf!" The girl instructed her Pokémon.
"Dodge it, then use Tackle!" Elliot called. Ledyba did as told, and after dodging the attack, hit Chikorita with a Tackle Attack. Chikorita got slowly back to her feet and Edie called for her to use Razor Leaf again. This time, however, Ledyba couldn't move out of the way fast enough, and took the attack full force. But when the dust cleared, there was Ledyba, with hardly a scratch. Edie looked aghast.
"Bu-but that was a direct hit! That should have done some damage!" She looked helplessly to Rotom.
"You see, Ledyba is both a Bug and a Flying type. And both of those types resist Grass Type, meaning that Ledyba has an even stronger resistance." Elliot explained to Edie. "Ohh! Ok thanks," Edie said. "Chikorita, use Tackle!"
"Dodge it and use Comet Punch!" Elliot shouted. Ledyba easily dodged Chikorita's attack, but the latter was not as lucky. Chikorita got hit full on by the Comet Punch, knocking her out, and ending the battle.
"Oh no! Chikorita! I'm so sorry!" Edie ran up to her Pokémon, with tears in her eyes. Chikorita slowly opened her eyes and gave Edie a weak smile.
"Here. Give her this Oran Berry, it will help her feel better," Edie looked up to see Elliot holding out a small round berry. She took it and fed it to Chikorita. It took a moment, but in no time the small Grass Type was back to her normal self.
"Let's camp here for the night," Edie decided.
"Sounds good to me. I'll get cooking, while you get started on the tents. How's that sound?" Elliot agreed. Edie nodded, and set to work putting up the tents. After a delicious meal of grilled cheese, they got ready for bed. Edie was about to zip her tent shut when she noticed how clear and open the sky seemed. With a last second change of heart, Edie grabbed her sleeping bag and pillow, and laid them down next to the dying embers of their fire. A few minutes later, she heard a shuffling noise, and looked over to see Elliot next to her.
"Guess I set those tents up for nothing, huh," Edie grinned. "I've never seen this many stars in the sky before. There was loads of light pollution in Rustboro, and it has pretty much been too cold to be outside so far in our new home," she continued. Elliot snuggled deeper into his sleeping bag. "Yeah. So, before we fall asleep, I have one last question for you, what's your goal? Like now that you have Pokémon, what do you want to do with them? I'm gonna be a Pokémon Breeder, like my role model, Brock." Elliot whispered in a sleepy voice.
"I'm gonna be Grand Champion, like my mom." Edie murmured. "At least that's what she wants me to be," but Elliot didn't hear that last part, he was already asleep. And as Edie fell into her own deep slumber, holding Chikorita and with Sentret snoring quietly on her head, a thought tugged at the back of her mind, no more than a whisper for now, but there just the same- it is what your mother wants, but the important question here is- do you want to be Grand Champion?Whew! That was a long chapter! For those of you that are still here reading this, thanks! I'll try and update again soon, so until then, stay Elegant!
