Dear Mark,
Huh. I still need to get used to calling you that again. I guess I've forgiven you now. You must have had some reason to do the things you did, so I'm just going to trust you. Maybe one day I'll give you my real address, and then you can tell me those reasons. One day. But after I've finished my story. Maybe then you'll know my real name aswell. You can tell the police then if you want. Get Dylan out of this mess I've put him in. But not today. Today I'll just continue. Hm. Okay, here we go.
I didn't hear from Dylan until a week later, and I'd spent that whole week silently worrying about him, and wondering what the hell Jack had done to him. But once Jack had told me he'd have to stay at work overnight in order to start early the next day, I knew I'd be able to sneak out and see him. I waved cheerfully as Jack drove away and watched out of the window until he was out of eye sight. I stayed in for a few more hours, just to be on the safe side, but soon I'd fastened Billy in his car set and we set off for Dylan's house.
As soon as we pulled up outside the house I knew something bad had happened. The front door was barely hanging on to the frame, hanging sideways from a single hinge. The window next to it was smashed, just tiny, jagged bits of glass left in the frame, some splattered with dry blood.
"Just stay here Billy. I won't be long." I smiled shakily, hurring out of the car and approaching the house cautiously.
"Dylan?" I called, listening intently for any reply. Nothing. I gently eased myself through the gap between the door and the wall, stepping into the dimly lit front room.
"Anyone here?" Muffled whispered came from the room next to me. Carefully, I nudged open the door. Dylan was slumped on the floor, talking quietly to a girl around his age who was sat next to him.
"Anna!" He grinned, reaching out for me, "Where's little Billy?"
"In the car." I smiled back, curiously glancing at the girl.
"Well go fetch him them!" Dylan laughed, noticing my glance, "I don't believe he's met his Aunt Clary?"
I shook my head.
"I didn't know you had a sister!"
"She's more than that Anna," Dylan smiled, "Clary's my twin."
I gazed at him in shock and he pointed out of the window.
"Billy!" He demanded. Snapping out of my daze, I rushed out of the house and picked up Billy, hurrying back in with him.
"Bill!" Dylan laughed happily, reaching out as Billy wobbled towards him slowly. He'd only started walking the other week. Billy giggled and flopped into his arms. It looked like he was meant to be there, Mark. Just like I was. I knew then it had always been Dylan. Never Jack.
"Are you ok?" I asked cautiously, studying him to see any cuts or bruises that might have been left by his angry brother.
"Yes, I'm fine Ann." He smiled kindly, "I was just a bit shaken and went to stay with Clary for a while. When I came back this morning, I found the house like this. Probably burglars."
I think we both knew it wasn't a burglar that had done this.
"Ah, ok. Now how about me and Clary get a proper introdution."
About an hour and a half later, the four of us were walking past the nearby fields, Billy calling an occasional moo or baa as we went past the farms. He insisted he'd seen a dinosaur, so we all went along with his T-Rex adventures, pointing out various potholes that could have been footprints. We were all still quite edgy about the Jack thing, so anytime we heard a car approaching, I pulled Billy into the nearest bush, hiding until Clary told us it was clear. We soon looped back to the end of Dylan's road, and slowly walked back up to his house, knowing I'd have to set off as soon as we got there.
"It's been fun, thanks Dyl..." I stopped midsentence as I saw the man stooped over my car.
"Well Anna. I thought I told you to stay at home."
I know it's mean Mark, I really, honestly didn't want to leave it there. But you probably know it was Jack who was stood there and blah blah blah. Yeah, well I'm going to have to leave it there, for now at least. You'll hopefully be hearing from me shortly, hopefully. Depends how the job goes. Maybe I'll win the lottery and fly of to a island somewhere with no postbox, who knows. Yeah. Stay safe I suppose. Not that you should be safe, but yeah.
From
Anna
