It's Edan's tenth birthday. He is hiding in the corner. He has a fever. The medics don't dare come in for the fact that it is his tenth birthday and he has a super high chance of being an elemental now.
My mom, Edan, and I were being separated out later into different cells. They still won't tell us where we are. They did confirm that Katy is with Dad now and she is perfectly fine. They also said that Hope is taking care of Kaida.
I glanced over at Edan. He looks terrible.
I glance over at my mom. She looks scared.
I feel fine except for the super high longing to go into the forest and explore.
An hour later, my mom was taken to her own cell. I was left with Edan. I don't know why.
Another hour later, Edan suddenly twitched. His eyes flashed red and his hair turned a dark red color. He looked on fire. The room heated up and Edan fainted. I scrambled into the far corner, breathing hard. Edan had found his name. He had found fire.
I screamed as fire lit up the room and the floor around Edan went up in flames.
"Edan!" I screamed. "Edan! Cut it out! Wake up and get ahold of yourself!"
Edan twitched and the flames grew smaller.
"Come on, Edan!" I have no idea how I know what to do. For some reason, I just know that I will be able to help him.
The room went dark as the flames vanished. The light bulb flickered and then died in the ceiling. I could feel power pulsing through the room.

Edan's pov:
I sat there. I felt like my insides were on fire. I looked up and saw fear filling Alena's eyes. What was scaring her? Suddenly the room tinted red and I felt like I was in an erupting volcano. Alena scrambled to the far corner and I suddenly fainted.
What is going on?
I heard screaming. A voice. Calling my name.
Wake up.
Come on, Edan.
I gave up. Then my body filled with ice. My eyes opened. The red tint was gone. The room was dark. I could smell smoke.
I had found my fire. I was an elemental.
"Alena?" I mumbled.
"Edan?" I heard her voice. Quiet and soft.
I closed my eyes and laid on the floor. I heard movement in the room. I opened my eyes and sat up. I need light. Suddenly a fire lit up in front of me. I saw Alena standing in the far corner still. I laid my head on the wall and heard voices.
"Should we get rid of him? Or should we teach him?" One voice said.
"I feel terrible even thinking of killing a child. Why don't we teach him. His grandfather works for us. I remember someone voted on not killing his grandfather in case we ever needed him."
"Yeah. But who is going to get the boy out of there?"
"The girl."
The door in the room creaked slowly open.
"Alena? Edan?"
"Yes?" Alena answered.
"Alena, could you get Edan over here? To the door?"
"Yes, sir."
I looked at my fire and whispered, "Be small." And the fire became tiny so that nobody would get hurt.
"You can control it? Without training?" Alena asked me as she gave me a hand to help me stand up.
"I guess."
Alena took my hand and lead me to the doorway. I whispered to make the fire go away.
"He can control it. That is very, very rare. It took your whole family tree many years to learn to control it." The man at the door told me.
"Wow!" Alena let go of me.
Someone can in and fixed the light bulb. Then a second man took Alena one way and one man took me the other.
"Where are we going?" I asked him.
"To your grandfather. He will help you. You may live with him if you want. He has his own cabin nearby."
"Oh, okay."
--------------
Alena's pov.
The man led me outside and into a field.
"We have been observing you. We noticed strange things. I want to see how you act out here."
"Um, okay."
"You may roam anywhere."
"Really? Wow!" I took off into the forest. I climbed up a tree and then swung back to the ground. I raced around until I was tired.
The trees had cameras in them. The only technology I had ever seen before.
When I returned to the man, he was watching a little box that had moving images on it.
"What's that?" I asked him.
"It's a monitor. It shows me what te cameras see. Here we have many things that the villages don't have."
"Woah."
"Yep."
That night I heard a click. I looked up and saw that the camera in my room was off and that the door was unlocked.
What's going on?
I crept into the hallway and saw that all of those cameras were off to.
I felt a really, really high longing to go outside and far into the forest. There was something there. I needed to find it.
I ran through the hallway as quietly as I could and then ran into the forest outside. The cameras there were off too. I ran far. I followed strange signs like broken branches, funny looking rocks, and animal tracks.
Then I heard it.
Scritch-scratch.
Like rocks being hit on each other.
I ran to the sound.
Then I found it.
The strangest thing I had ever come across in the forest.
A black, oval shaped rock.
I touched it and felt a shocking pain in my hand. I looked at my hand and saw that it was red and looked burnt. How was I supposed to hide that? I poked the rock again and nothing happened. Then I picked it up, put it in my shirt, and carried it back to my room. My room now had a bed in it. So I shoved the rock in the back corner under it and then used my spare blanket to cover the rock.
