My head was spinning all around me, I couldn't remember anything that happened. Where am I? I can't see anything for my surroundings are pitch black around me. Whatever I was in smelled like fish. I found myself inside of something soft like a cushion. I felt around me to get an idea of my surroundings. Something large and round, that sat in the middle of what felt like a hard, slimy cushion. Seaweed? It didn't make any sense. If I was in the ocean, (which would practically be impossible), then where is the water? How could I breath?
Nothing made any sense. I racked at my brain trying to remember all that had happen. I tried to remember, but I didn't, I couldn't. All that I could remember is that I was on a boat looking for my sister fighting some creature in the water and then... nothing. Replaying everything that currently happened in my head, I was too distracted to notice that someone was opening the thing that I am in.
What felt like a hand startled me taking me away from my thoughts. Turning around was like trying to speak when you get the wind knocked out of you. What I saw was unlike anything that I have ever seen, (realistically speaking). My mind raced as I tried to gather every detail that I could possibly gather. The first thing that I saw was a tail, then the webbed hands, face, and upper body. Then the whole picture came into view. A fishman, or in other words merman. Not know noticing the fact that I couldn't breath because of the water that filled in around me I jumped back before the creature could touch me again. I turned around to kick it in the face throwing it off for a while.
My lungs started to feel uncomfortable from the lack of oxygen I was receiving. I emerged from my holding that turned out to be a giant clam shell, and took in my surroundings. I was in what looked to be an office building. The flood must have risen so high that it took over all the buildings engulfing everything in it. The office had a rotting desk that became home to a eel, barnacles, and a few small fish that play swimming through the holes in the wood. Broken glass littered the ground from the shattered windows. It must have been a result of the impact from the waves crashing against the building. My escape to the surface was only feet away. I kicked to the broken window carefully avoiding the sharp glass surrounding the window. I looked up to the surface that looked only 20 feet away.
I swam as fast I could to the surface. What seemed like I was 20 feet away was really 50. I looked below me to make sure that the creature hadn't yet recovered from my kick. With no sign of him I turned back around and began swimming again, my lungs burning for air. I heard a movement in the water below; looking down I saw him. His eyes were blazing as he used his powerful tail and sliced through the water as if it was air. 50, 40, 30, 20 feet away gaining 10 feet with every slash of his tail. My heart raced and my lungs felt they were on fire by now. Adrenaline rushed through my veins sending my legs kicking like a propeller. I could see my boat that to my surprise, was still sitting on top of the water.
Kicking faster and faster my legs carried me through the water fast, but not fast enough. With every slash of his tail it took me 3 kicks with my legs. Finally I reached the surface, air rushed through my lungs feeling like sandpaper. I reached for the boat pulling myself halfway up. The creature grabbed my ankles with his slimy webbed hands pulling me down. I lost my grip on the ledge falling down into the water. Pain surged through my arm as it got caught on a metal shard ripping my skin from my wrist to my elbow. Blood rushed out and spread in the water as I fought uselessly against him.
Dragging me deeper and deeper in the water I saw a flash of a great white shark. Fear surged through me draining all of the blood from my face. I calmed myself down and stopped lashing out at him knowing that letting him drag me was my only chance to get away. By now the water has turned into a vibrant red, my blood dying the water and acting as a call to all the sharks from miles around. My vision getting blurrier with every second. I looked below me and all around me to discover that sharks of all kinds were piling around us.
With the last bit of energy I tried to speak to the creature letting him know about the sharks, but only air bubbles came out. Looking down at my arm I couldn't stand to see the sight of the nasty wound that was still gushing blood. My stomach flipped inside and out letting me know that I had to look away. As I turned my head, fear surged through me like a tornado as one of the sharks mustered up the courage to attempt a bite. The sight of its ugly face and its dark cold eyes coming towards us like a cheetah on land drained all of the energy and blood from my body.
I looked over to the creature, as worry filled his face. Closer and closer came the shark looking meaner with every second. The creature let go of me ramming into the large shark. Falling down deeper and deeper into the ocean reaching out my hand for the last bit of hope that I had of survival, my vision faded away as the shark as the boy fought vigorously.
My consciousness came back to me as replays of previous events play over in my head. Remembering all that had happened, the boy, the shark, my arm... the boy. Was he okay? He fought so hard against the sharks. He saved my life. Wait, no he didn't, he made me cut my arm and then let go of me so that I would fall deeper into the ocean to drown. This was all his fault. Hate filled me as another one of those creature's came into the room. Not seeming to acknowledge me because she was too busy fiddling with a shell I thought that it would be best if I would act like I was asleep.
:I can here your thoughts you know:
What? I jumped as a voice that isn't my own popped into my head. That's impossible. There is no way that this girl can read my thoughts. If she really can then how could I hear her through my mind?
:It's called telepathy. All the mer people have this.: she sounded as if I should know this and that I was stupid for not. Again I was startled from this obscure behavior. The girl had red hair, green eyes with a red tail. She was very beautiful and had a sweet voice. I wonder if she is a good singer and drags sailors to their doom. I lightly chuckled to myself.
:I'm not a siren. I'm a deep sea mermaid. We live in the middle of the ocean and are built for war. That's why I'm second in command for general. And FYI I'm terrible at singing.:
But I'm not a merperson. I'm a human. This is all too new to me. Maybe I am dreaming, I have to be this is impossible.
:I can only hear your thoughts.:
Well I know that, you just told me like 2 minutes ago. Don't talk to me like I'm stupid. You're the one with a terrible memory. Every passing moment with her boils my blood. My dislike for he says attitude grows by the second like wild fire.
:Don't get smart with me. I'm simply stating the facts. You're the idiot who go themself into this mess. Plus, you can just think of what you want to say and I'll hear it. You're not very good at putting up your walls.:
Well if that's the way she wants to play then so be it. I decided to ask her a few questions that have been boggling my mind for the past 20 minutes. If I am a human then why can I hear you inside of my head?
:Well you are only 3/4 human right now. You are still going through the change.:
Change? What do you mean by change? As she said this my mind raced with thousands of questions to ask her. Excitement filled me, but at the same time worry and fear did the same.
:There is no need to worry. The change occurs very slowly. By slowly I mean over the course of 4 months. But they major transformation will happen in a matter of minutes to hours. And it is very painful by the way. While you are going through this change you will have to prove your trust to us. And we must trust you.:
I tried to get up to say something, but straps that were made out of seaweed kept me down. Scolding, I thought, is this what you mean by trust? These, oh what should I call them? Bonds? To keep me from running away. Because I gladly will if it means a better chance in finding my sister. That you monsters took her. More hatred filled me the more I thought about my sister and them taking her. I don't think that I would be able to stand another minute in this prison.
:We didn't take your sister. In fact I have no clue who took your sister or where she was taken. Let alone do I care.: She was looking at me now. She slowly swam over to my bed and put her shell down on the floor. Her eyes were now black as coal. Her tail turned into a very dark blue as she approached me as did her hair. I could see hatred in her eyes, and it felt as if they were burning into me. Her hair turned black as night. She bent over my bed making me look her straight in the eyes. Then she said to me, :Do you want to know why I don't care about what happens to your sister?: I just looked at her trying to give her the silent treatment. :Oh, so that's how you want to play it now do you? Well anyways, the reason why I don't care about you or your stupid little sister is because when I was a young fishling my mother was taken by one of your kind. Never have I met creatures so preposterous. Even an anglerfish has more sympathy than you land people.: She looked at me as if I was one of them.
Well at least I'm not one of them. It's like you said I'm only 3/4's human and going through some type of change in which you have not explained to me yet. So when ever you are ready to explain I will be right here. It's not like I can go anywhere. Gesturing to the seaweed that binds my hands to the bed.
:You still came from humans. And not to mention you still are mostly human. Why do you think that you are chained down and have a bubble around you so that you can breath? Of course the chains were my idea. If it weren't for Storm, then you would still be drowning. By drowning I mean you wouldn't have that bubble over your head and you would be at the bottom of the ocean being eaten by sharks. Oh and I forgot to mention that I am not supposed to tell about the change. Oops.: She talked with a sour tone as if she was trying to interrogate me. She put her hand over her mouth and flung her tail up when she said oops in a mocking way.
How can you be so cruel if you don't even know something so simple about me such as my name? As I thought this I gave facial expressions to show her how much I hated her and her pretty little mouth.
:Easy like I said. Your kind killed my mother so I do and forever will hate you and your kind.: She talked as if she wanted to rip my guts out but was trying to be nice about it. As she left the room she closed the door but quickly opened it and said, :my name's Serena by the way. What's yours?:
I'm Vivian.
:I don't care. Bye!:
Nice to meet you too. Not. Please tell me she didn't just read my thoughts again.
:Oh don't worry I did.: I really hate her. The funny thing is that she doesn't even realize that I placed a recording device that was water proof on her tail when she was bent over me. I knew that she wouldn't be able to read my mind because she is too distracted talking to someone. How can I tell that? Well, I could her speaking to someone, (through telepathy.)
