Clementine's POV
Walking back with these girls was a little intimidating, I'll admit. About halfway to their cabin, we ran into a couple walkers, only around three. Kylah, not wanting to deal with the aftereffects of a gunshot, took out a big knife, a machete even, and held it close to her, contemplating the effects of using this knife or another weapon. After supposedly choosing the knife she held, she motioned to Aly and Kimi, who had introduced themselves prior, that she was taking the big walker, while the other two get the others.
I was told to stay back, just in case.
As they moved forward, always in sync, they slowly stepped around the walkers with incredible grace. Aly slipping to the left, Kimi to the right, and Kylah moving down the middle. Kimi had a baseball bat, I had tried to pick it up earlier and damn was it heavy. Aly, holding an axe that she had been carrying, and was getting ready to swing.
Kimi and Aly made eye contact and nodded, trying not to make any noise, and simply noddded. They closed in on the walkers and killed them both in 2 hits. Kylah then killed her walker and we carried on.
When the cabin finally came into distance, Kimi suggested we race there. It was only maybe a quarter of a mile but Kylah said she might and Aly complained she wasn't "feeling it". So I jogged ahead with the two girls and soon enough, with a groan in protest, Aly came running after us.
The cabin was quite big, and although it was clearly visible, the girls had patched up the front and back doors, and made it so you had to climb to get up. Honestly, the climbing was pretty hard to get up for me, and Aly helped me up.
The cabin was very cozy and felt like a home. Kimi said she was gonna go and look for some firewood, as there was even a fireplace! Kylah showed me to her room, which had bunk beds that her and I were going to share, and although the house had many more places to sleep, I knew Kylah was just being cautious by making sure I slept in someone's room.
Soon enough, we all were sitting down in the "living room" and sharing stories.
Kimi told their group's first, to loosen up the tension. She had apparently been best friends with Kylah and Aly before this had all happened. They were separated at the start of the apocalypse, though and eventually found eachother. They had tried to combine their separate groups when they found each other, and it went well for a while, but someone got infected, people got attacked, and they were all that remained. They even showed me the pictures of their lost ones, and I watched their faces get sadder and sadder with each picture, pain filled their faces.
Then I told them mine. I told them all about Lee, Kenny, Ben, Duck, Christa, Omid, Katja, Doug, Larry, Glen, etc.
They were shocked to say the least. We all ended up hugging and crying, but we bonded as a group.
I eventually retired into Kylah's and my room and after hearing Aly say she'd take the first shift, I drifted off to sleep.
