Prologue

  Darkness. The kind of darkness that awaits children in their closets; the type of darkness that takes over dreams and turns them to nightmares; the type of darkness everyone is inhibited by in the recesses of their minds. This darkness envelops me as I am thrust into the vast portion of time between the Planet and the Higher Earth. There is no wind, no evidence of any movement even though I am clearly being pushed forwards into the abyss. I try to make noise but no sound comes out. I try to breathe but my lungs won't let me take in the life-saving oxygen I need. I'm slowly choking in this great expanse of night. I need air... air... air....
