Chapter Two

"I have a reallyyyyy important question," Jenne drawled sweetly. Her originally cute and innocent fishtail braids started to come undone as she shook her head back and forth violently, almost as if something was clawing its way out of her most inner being.

"It's really important. It's really important. It's really important," Jenne repeated over and over, too many times to count. Her chair also started to shake along with her erratic movements. Suddenly, a string of garbled words forced themselves out of Jenne's mouth as Mother and Father stared, horrified.

"End....abyss...darkness....one true leader....life....death....end...ab-ab-abyss..." Jenne's eyes rolled to the back of her head as she collapsed into her meatloaf. Red seasoning squished into the whites of her eyes. Jenne started to ram her head into the meal in front of her as I scooted my chair out and grabbed her shoulder. My hands seemed to sink into her skin, and I quickly popped my hand off. Brands remained where my five fingers and palm were. My gag reflex was triggered as Jenne vomited black liquid across the table into Mother and Father's laps. Speaking of which, my parents were frozen in their seats, staring dumbfounded at the scene before them. Jenne's chair's continued vibrations seemed to drill into the darkest recesses of my soul. Black liquid seeped dangerously near me as Jenne retched once more. I jumped out of my chair and stared as the liquid dripped onto the floor. Mother and Father jolted out of their stupor when the liquid dripped onto the floor. They're probably worried about the carpet, I thought to myself. My assumptions were wrong. My Mother headed for Jenne while my Father ran for the shared phone. I saw him dial the number. THE number. 3845, the numbers which EVIL is spelled out on. The Council of Twelve were so paranoid about any darkness that they created a community number for any one person to call in case anything bad happened. Kind of like the 911 number the people on The Planet use in case of emergencies.

Mother picked up Jenne, and miraculously she stopped shaking and relaxed in Mother's arms. As Mother sat down on my chair I had abandoned, Jenne's eyes rolled back down into the right place and she sat up straight. Suddenly, her head cocked again. This time, she didn't retch, nor vibrate. She just said something.

"Melli? Did you know you're an angel? Melli? Did you know I can see your light from a mile away? Melli? Did you know you're an angel? Melli? Did you know I can scent your goodness from many feet away?" Jenne cackled and grinned huge. She then said something that resonated deep into my soul.

"Melli? Did you know we are hunting you?"

Again... silence.

Staring.

Jenne went limp in my Mother's arms. The look on my Mother's face was hard to describe. It was a mix of horror, pure sadness, and burning anger. Suddenly, Mother dropped Jenne on the ground and stood up. Jenne's limbs hit the carpet thankfully, but her legs hit the chairs and her head hit a hard edge of the table. Even though her words scared me, deep inside myself something told me "help." I pulled Jenne onto the carpet right as she started to stir. As her eyes opened I stepped away. Even though it looked like she was conscious of what she was saying, I asked Jenne anyways, "do you remember what you said to us?"

Jenne sat up and said,

"Yes."

Just that one simple word seemed to strike me in the chest and I sat down while gasping for air. The bitter taste of the stuff that kept me alive broke me out of my stupor. I looked up to see Jenne half crawling, half walking over to where my parents stood, huddled by the phone. I stumbled after her and said, "Jenne, why are you doing this? Where do these words come from?" Although I already knew the answer, her reply seemed to resonate even deeper into my already broken soul.

"The Lower Planet. Hell."

That was when a knock on the door was heard. My parents ran over to answer the knock while Jenne smiled another evil smile at me. When the Higher Police grabbed hold of Jenne and took her away, she still smiled that wicked, wicked smile directly at me and maintained perfect eye contact.

As her feet were dragged over the threshold of the door, she mouthed to me,

"Goodbye, sister. Although I will see you very, very soon."

It seemed the whole weight of the world crashed down onto my head, my shoulders. Everything turned white and I blinked my eyes, seeing stars.

Suddenly, a thick hand added weight to my already tired shoulder, and I heard the owner of that hand say in a low, soothing voice, "come."
