Hermione had been curled up on her sofa reading a book, when she heard multiple Pop sounds from behind her.

"Surprise!" Three familiar voices said in unison. She smiled at Harry, Ron and Ginny as they settled down opposite her.

"I'm surprised to see you here," Hermione said.

"Are you expecting someone else, then?" Ginny said in a suggestive tone.

"C'mon Gin, it's still so early. Give Hermione a rest."

Hermione was grateful to Ron for coming to her rescue. Truth be told, she was expecting someone. Although, she doubted he would even care how she was doing after she left him hanging, the night before.

"I'll fix you some snacks," she said, getting up and walking towards the kitchen. Ginny followed her.

"Hermione, you have to get over my brother. It has been such a long time. He has since moved on, you should too," Ginny said gently.

"I am over him, Ginny. Why do you keep insisting that I am not?"

"I see the way you look at him," Ginny replied, as if challenging Hermione to contradict her.

"Fine! I may have some feelings for him, but I just can't make them go away..." Hermione said, trailing off, as a memory popped up in her head.

Hermione was waiting for Ron, seated at a table in the far corner of the restaurant. She had a book to keep her company, as she anxiously waited for Ron to show up.

She looked up from the book, only to be met with familiar blue eyes. She grinned widely and stood up to hug Ron.

"So, what did you want to talk about? It seemed quite urgent when you owled me to meet you here," Hermione asked carefully.

"I just wanted to see you," Ron said not quite meeting her eyes. He continued with a sigh as Hermione raised a perfectly shaped eyebrow at him.

"I wanted to discuss our relationship with you. You went back to Hogwarts to finish your seventh year, while Harry and I went for Auror training... What i mean is that we haven't had a chance to discuss where this is going or what it even is at this point."

Hermione had been dreading this moment for a long time. They hadn't had a chance to talk about their relationship properly. They had been on a few dates, shared a few passionate kisses along the way, but hadn't given their relationship a title.

Between Hermione's classes, studying for N.E.W.Ts, Ron's hectic training schedule and their newly found titles as War Heroes, they hardly met the whole year.

While Hermione was lost in her thoughts, she hadn't noticed that Ron was waiting for a response, until he cleared his throat to gain her attention. She snapped back to reality and choosing her words carefully, she said,

"Ron, i know we haven't spent much time together lately, but what are you implying?"

"I mean maybe we should think this through. Maybe we are making a mistake. Maybe when we first got together, the timing wasn't right, and don't you think we might have rushed into things without thinking carefully about what it might mean?"

"Are you suggesting we break up?" Hermione asked, slightly raising her voice. If they weren't having this discussion, she might have laughed at how he was acting like her, overthinking about things.

"Well, yes. I think we should see other people and clear our minds. If we are meant to be, then we will eventually get back together," Ron said, still not meeting her eyes.

Hermione snorted and said, "Just say it, Ron. You are afraid of commitment. We might be drifting apart because you don't want me to get close enough to actually see you. I get that you are insecure, but just wake up already, Ron!" With that, she stood up and stormed out of the restaurant.

As Hermione snapped back to reality,  she noticed that Ginny was looking at her weirdly. Ginny put a comforting hand on her shoulder, as she sat down in one of the chairs at the kitchen table.

"Ginny, i just want to know why he broke up with me. Was it something i said or did? Did he not like me anymore? Was i not enough for him?" She asked, tearing up.

"No, Hermione. I had a long talk with my brother after you left. I was curious about what had happened. He told he was in fact, insecure and unsure. He did like you, he just wasn't sure you both had the same priorities anymore. He was scared that if he let your relationship go on like that, you both might have ended up getting hurt badly. So he did the only logical thing he could think of: breaking it off before it got too serious," Ginny finished.

"But he got together with Lavender right after we broke up. I saw it in the Daily Prophet, rather than hearing it from him. That is what made me lose my shit, and i just had to leave, at that point."

"Hermione, don't we share everything? Please tell me the truth this time. You can't fool me. I know you didn't just go to Australia to clear your mind. It's not like you to run away from your problems and stay gone for 2 years. So tell me, why did you leave?"

"I went to find my parents."
