Number Two sighed. The crystal-clear window revealed a blue sky with white clouds that looked like paintbrush strokes. Birds flew in the open sky, with the sun shining on their feathers. She felt the white walls with her fingers. It was soft, so she couldn't hurt herself. The floor was the same way, and she only had an airbed. No frame.
Number Two was her name. That's it. She didn't know if it was normal or not, she'd never been outside. She had her meals brought to her every day and they were slid underneath the door. Breakfast was at ten o'clock. Lunch at twelve. Dinner at seven. Everyday. Nothing changed."Number Two, my sweet, come let me see you!"
Number Two turned and smiled. The door was open to see Doctor Cresswell, smiling at her in a loving manner. She grinned and stood up to meet him with open arms. He embraced her and gave a light kiss on the top of her head.
"How is my little creation?" Asked Dr. Cresswell, placing his hands on her shoulders.
"I'm doing well, Father. How is Number One and Three?" she asked, her hands by her side. Her sandy brown hair was down to her ankles in a long and thick braid. Her green eyes had flairs of light brown and huge pupils. She had freckles that sprinkled across her face, and dimples that you could swim in when she smiled.
"Number One is doing well. He got a haircut today as well. Number Three would like to see you again and she is increasing in her ability." he said, walking around Number Two's padded room. Sighing, Number Two went over and walked through her bed out of boredom.
The edges were glowing a blue light, and she finally walked out. Number Two was the first human being to be able to walk through solid objects, but her walls, door, and floor were impregnable. She had parents, but was simply conceived in a test tube and grown as a fetus in a cylinder of clear liquid, biolimus.
The first memory she ever had was looking at a group of scientists working on another... thing. She hadn't quite known what is was yet. Her eyes were open and one of the scientists took notice. Soon, she'd been taken out and her umbilical cord was cut and she was cleaned of the biolimus.
"Number Two, your food is ready."
She turned and realized in her daze Dr. Cresswell had left. Bummer.
Walking toward the door, the metal tray slipped under the space between the floor and door. It was a nutriloaf, with all the necessary nutrients. It tasted...average? Number Two hadn't tasted anything different.
The sun was setting outside her window. She sighed. The only window was about the size of her pillow, and it had no opening.
The sky was painted with hues of lilac and peach, and it filled Number Two with longing to feel that stuff called 'grass'. She wanted to feel water running through her toes and feel the breeze on her face. While in a wanton daze something caught her eye.
It was... a boy. He had black hair and was running from something. Toward her building. Number Two watched him with interested eyes.
'What was he doing here? Why was he so captivating?' she thought. She turned away with her thoughts and sat on her bed, just in time for the lights to go out.
