Chapter 6
(Y/N)'s POV
The door didn't open again for a long time, and somewhere in that stretch of silence, I stopped trying to measure how much time had passed.
The hallway had settled back into something still and distant, the earlier movement fading until it felt like I was the only one left in that space. The faint hum of the building filled the quiet, blending with the soft echoes of distant footsteps that never quite reached me. It felt strange—how something so full of people could feel so empty at the same time. My body had gone still without me realizing it, my hands resting loosely in my lap, though every now and then my fingers would curl inward slightly, tightening for no reason I could explain. It wasn't conscious. It wasn't something I chose. It was just... happening.
I wasn't even sure what I was waiting for anymore.
Maybe I wasn't waiting at all.
Maybe I just didn't know what else to do.
Because leaving still felt like something I wasn't ready for, like stepping away would mean accepting something I hadn't fully processed yet. So I stayed, my gaze fixed on the door without really seeing it, my thoughts quieter now, but heavier in a way that made it harder to move.
Then—
The door opened.
Slowly.
Quietly.
The sound was soft, almost unnoticeable, but it pulled me back immediately, my attention sharpening in an instant even though my body didn't react right away. I didn't stand up immediately. I didn't rush forward. I just watched, my breath catching slightly as the door widened.
Sehun stepped out first.
And for a moment—
Everything else disappeared again.
It didn't matter that there were others behind him, that the hallway hadn't changed, that nothing around me was actually different.
All I saw was him.
Standing there.
Awake.
Alive.
Close enough that it didn't feel like a memory anymore.
My body reacted before my mind could catch up, my legs moving slowly as I stood, my balance slightly unsteady like I hadn't used it in a while. There was a hesitation in my movement, something small but noticeable, like even approaching him now felt unfamiliar.
"...Sehun," I called softly, his name leaving my lips in a way that felt different than before—less certain, more careful, like I wasn't sure if I was allowed to say it anymore.
He stopped.
But he didn't move toward me.
Instead, he looked at me.
And the moment our eyes met, something inside me tightened in a way that felt immediate and irreversible.
There was no hesitation in his expression this time.
No confusion lingering behind it.
Just something clearer.
Something colder.
Something decided.
"What are you still doing here?" he asked.
The words were simple.
Calm.
But they didn't feel like it.
They landed slowly, settling into my chest in a way that made it harder to breathe the longer I stayed still. For a moment, I didn't respond, not because I didn't want to—but because I didn't know how to.
