Chapter 9
(Y/N)'s POV
The hallway didn't feel the same anymore.
It wasn't just the quiet that lingered too long or the way the air seemed heavier than before, pressing faintly against my chest with every breath I took—it was something deeper, something that had settled into me slowly without asking, without warning, until it became impossible to ignore. The longer I stood there, the more aware I became of everything I had been trying not to notice—the stillness in my limbs, the slight delay in my movements, the way even breathing felt like something I had to think about instead of something that happened naturally. Time didn't move the way it used to. It stretched, pulled thin, each second longer than it should have been, giving me too much space to feel everything I had been holding back.
I hadn't moved.
Not really.
My back still rested lightly against the wall, though now the contact felt more necessary than before, like I needed something solid behind me just to remain standing without effort. My fingers pressed faintly against the surface beside me, tightening every now and then in a quiet, unconscious attempt to steady myself, even though I hadn't fully acknowledged that I needed it. My breathing had slowed, but it wasn't even—not completely. There was something uneven beneath it, something quieter but persistent, like my body was struggling to keep up in a way I didn't want to admit.
The door remained closed.
And I told myself that was enough.
That I didn't need anything more.
That I could stay like this a little longer—without stepping forward, without walking away, without forcing anything that wasn't meant to happen anymore.
But even as I told myself that—
I didn't leave.
Just beyond the doorway, where the corridor opened into a wider stretch lined with tall windows, Sehun found himself drifting without realizing it, his steps slower than usual as he moved toward the light spilling across the polished floor. The late afternoon sun filtered through the glass in long, golden streaks, casting shifting patterns that stretched and bent with every passing moment, but he barely noticed any of it. His attention kept pulling back—again and again—to the door behind him, to the quiet presence he couldn't see but somehow still felt lingering there.
He stopped near the window, the faint hum of distant voices and footsteps echoing softly through the hall, blending into a background noise that should have grounded him, but didn't. Instead, it only made the silence in his own thoughts louder. His gaze drifted outward for a moment, unfocused, before tightening again, his jaw setting slightly as that same unexplainable feeling pressed against him.
It didn't make sense.
Nothing about it did.
And yet it refused to leave him alone.
There was something about her presence—something subtle, something he couldn't name—that kept tugging at him in a way that felt unfamiliar, almost intrusive. It wasn't memory. He knew that much. There was nothing clear, nothing recognizable, nothing he could hold onto and say this is why.
But still—
It lingered.
Persistent.
Unsettling.
Like a thought just out of reach, hovering at the edge of understanding no matter how hard he tried to grasp it.
And the more he tried to ignore it—
