                                                                                     Charley's POV

I stood on the roof of the night club thinking about how much the city has changed without me. I knew it would be different when I came back and I knew that no matter how much I wanted to stay, but  I couldn't.

Aliana found me on the rooftop, thinking to myself. We stood quiet together for a few moments before finally acknowledging each other's presence.

"So...I'm sorry for storming out." she said

"I expected someone to be mad." I told her

"I wasn't mad at you." she said and came to stand next to me

"I know." I said plainly

"What are you doing up here?" she asked

"It helps me think." I answered

"Oh, I didn't realize-" she said turning to talk away

I grabbed her wrist keeping her from leaving. She was like a sister to me and I needed to make sure she was okay before I left again, breaking her heart once more.

She looked up at me with a question in her eyes and confusion on her face.

"You didn't interrupt my thoughts, Aliana" I said

"Oh, I'm sorry. I just assumed-" she started again

I cut her off, "Don't ever assume."

She gave me a grin and I let go of her wrist. We stood there silently admiring the view of the city that I wasn't familiar with.

"It's so different." I said noticing all the new builds and old ones. The city was full with more life than ever before. It had expanded as well.

"Yea, that's what happens when you leave for a long time and then come back. Things change. They are always changing." She said

She wasn't saying that in a mean way and I knew that, but it still felt like she was mad at me for some reason. She probably was and I didn't blame her. I had been her only family since her parents and mine had died. We weren't related, but that brother, sister type bond was there. I had left her without telling her a word about it. Just up and left. I knew she couldn't handle losing someone else, but I had to leave. It was important and it was destiny. Aliana brought me out of my thoughts.

"Char, Are you thinking again?" she asked

I nodded.

"I guess you better get used to this city now since it will become your home once again." she said.

The wind started to pick up and the air was thick with the promise of rain.

"Aliana, I can't stay." I turned to look at her

"Why?" she asked

"I have my reasons." I said

She made a face at me, "You always have your reasons. Why can't you just tell me one of them for once?"

"It's not something I want to bring you into. Family matters." I said

"I'm part of the family. Your parents took me in when my mother was killed. I'm family." She said

"I know, but Aliana, I can't let you get hurt." I told her

She scoffed, "I can take care of myself, thanks."

"Aliana, I'm sorry. At least I'm telling you I'm leaving, this time." I said

She sighed in defeat. I couldn't tell what was going on in that girl's head.

"I'll miss you, Char." she said

"I'll miss you too, but don't worry. I'm not leaving yet." I told her

She gave me a hug before retreating from the roof. I watched as she ran out of sight in a blink and went back to thinking.
