Beep... Beep... Beep....

The thick, drawn and steady rhythm fills my ears as my eyes groggily peel open. Bright white light fills my vision, causing me to wince and bring a hand to shield my eyes.
"Oh, careful there." Says a firm, yet kind voice.
A smooth hand connects with my and lowers it back to my side, shortly after the bright lights above me dim, soothing my aching eye sockets.
"You're going to feel a bit groggy for a bit," says the voice, slowly echoing in my head.
Blinking away the encroaching plead for sleep, I open my eyes to see a face staring back at me.
A woman.

Her hair is a firm brown colour with stark cognac eyes like warm whisky in a glass and held to the light to glisten. Looking up from a tablet in her hands, the woman locks gazes with mine and a warm smile arrives from her smooth flushed lips.
"How are you feeling?"

I stare silently, my mind still fighting the urge for more sleep.

"S-stiff." Is all my mouth can find to say.

The woman chuckles and nods, returning back to her template.

"I'm sure-" finishing with the pad in her hand, the woman sets it aside and pulls a small light from her pocket.

Systematically, she slides it in and out of my pupils before checking my pulse on a machine stationed near the head of my bed.

"Do you know where you are?" She asks.

Frowning at the question, my lips hesitate as memories flash back into my head.

The Qubæ.

Nukaro Police.

Herbert.

My heart begins to race as my body panics. The machine next to me begins to beep more frantically, signalling the woman.

"Listen, you're panicking right now, and I need you to calm down." She soothes, placing her hands over my arms, keeping them by my sides.

"What h-happened-"

"Your safety pod was found beached on the shore of Heria. We had to medivac you here, Küro Central Hospital."

Jerking from her grasp, I sit upright as I gasp for breath. No, I couldn't be here.

"Nukaro," I stutter with a wince.

"Calm down sir," the woman warns, slowly coaxing me to lay back down as the machine beside her becomes louder with each passing second.

"I need to get to Nuk-"

"You are in Nukaro - the Aero District."
At those words, the panic building inside my bones slowly subsides and with a great exhaustion, I collapse back onto the bed. The woman watches me relax before seeming to follow suit.

"Now, do you remember what happened? How you came to be in that pod?"

I lick my dry lips, my eyes wandering to my foreign surroundings. From what I could tell, the woman - the doctor - wasn't lying. I was most definitely in a hospital, and from the absence of any police of cuffs, they hadn't turned me in yet.

The woman must have taken my silence as an answer. Pulling a seat from a nearby wall, she takes a seat beside my bed.
"What's your name? Do you know that?"
She looks at me intently, quietly waiting for an answer. Shrinking under her gaze, I swallow nervously. Awaking in a hospital had never been a part of the plan, leaving me defenceless as to how to answer these questions.
Should I tell the truth, or just parts of it?
"Your pod," she says, breaking the silence, "it's nameplate must have been torn off when detached from your ship. In fact, there was no information whatsoever on who you are or where you came from."
