A few weeks after their arrival, after things had been unpacked and arranged, it was time for Eve to start school, and her mother to start work. September had come quicker than they expected, and the day after labour day, Eve and her mother were heading out the door to the local highschool.

"God Eve, you're like waking the dead!" Joy laughed, climbing into the truck.

"Yeah yeah, you would be too if you were sleep deprived." Eve shot back, climbing in beside her, backpack on her lap.

"Why sleep deprived?"

"Nightmares."

Joy slammed on the breaks as they were backing out of the driveway.

"What kind of nightmares??"

"They're just nightmares Mom-"

"Eve honey, I need you to tell me exactly what's in these dreams. It's very important." Joy said, facing her daughter with worry in her eyes.

"I don't know.. a lot of blood and screaming and pointed teeth and pointed sticks and yellow eyes and crosses." Eve said, counting off each thing on one finger.

Her mother took a deep breath, then turned back to Eve.

"Do you still want to go to school? If you don't its okay."

"No Mum, I want to go to school, but what's going on? Do you know what the dream means?"

With that, her mother clammed up, drove her to school, and waited patiently for her to get out.

Fuming, Eve got out of the car and joined the masses of kids flooding towards Shinelow Highschool. This day was not going the way she wanted it to, and it was about to get a whole lot crazier.
