The summer of decisions

Chapter 2

Taking one last look at myself I nodded in approval. As I stepped down the creaky old wooden stairs i could immediately feel eyes on me. Heat rose in my cheeks. How awkward... I maintained a straight face as I turned the corner. The last step moaned as I entered the room.

"Sweetheart, you finally came down, we thought you died up there!"

Looking across the living room I noticed my mom sitting on the yellow recliner continuing a conversation with the new guests. On the other end of the room sat my grandma who was looking out the window watching the boats fly by on the lake. I leaned against the post of the stairs. I didn't see any of the boys down here so that calmed me.

"Lauren, come say hi to the Vanutti's."

Putting a gentle smile on my face I walked towards Mr. Vanutti and shook his hand. Tough grip. He had light brown hair and was very masculine.

"Lauren," I said turning towards the lady next to him. "Nice to meet you." I could smell pasta cooking in the kitchen which immediately sent me there.

I walked out of the wooden living room quickly and stepped into the kitchen. New appliances I see. Grandma must be renovating. I grabbed a red cup from the counter and started filling it with water from the refrigerator. I'm literally so excited for dinner because I haven't eaten sense yesterday.

Hopefully we are going on the pontoon tonight. Late night rides are the best. Especially sense it's 80 out and by tonight it should be around 70.

Slouching against the refrigerator I heard a noise from behind me. I could tell the porch door squeak open. Rolling my eyes I continued watching the water seep into the cup.

As the water reached the top line I felt a presence from behind me. The goosebumps on my arms rose as I felt a hand on my hip. I froze. Whipping my head I came face to face with the boy from outside.

"Hello," He said. That is definitely not how you make a first impression. Touching my hip, really?

I stumbled back quickly. The water spilled out from the cup as my back ran into the corner of the kitchen. Raising my brow I scuffed at him.

The boy with the piercing blue eyes came closer to me, never letting go of my eye contact. His eyes reminded me of Jc's.

Jc. I can't think about anybody but him, what are you doing Lauren.

Who does he think he is? He can't just do this. To my amazement I couldn't move or say anything. I maintained a glare at him as he closed in upon me. His face was so close to mine but yet I couldn't move.

"Just grabbing a cup." He said smirking. There was a hint of a New Yorker accent in his voice. I saw his arm reach over to the red solo cups that were next to me. My breathing got jagged. Pompous jerk. He swiped his arm against the skin that was showing on my hip as he laughed a little. I pushed him back as he laughed even louder.

"Danny." He said leaning against the island still smiling. What the heck. How can he go from acting so weird to being so normal? I was so tempted to smack him. Or at least scream at him, but I decided to stick with the nice approach.

"Lauren." I mumbled talking a seat at the island, making sure to keep a distance. He pulled out his phone and checked it before turning back to me. The talking in the living room got louder signaling they were walking towards the kitchen. Glaring at him once more I turned around in my chair and looked towards my mom and Mrs. Vanutti. I don't even know him yet but I know he's a cocky freak. They walked over and my mom smiled at me as she took a seat.
