Chapter Three:
Matrimonial Alliance?

_______________________________________

Lilly's POV

I glance once at Mr Ambrose to confirm the information in the file and I take it to be true since he says nothing to the contrary.

As if he ever says anything.

Yes, that is true.

But you like your silent iceberg, especially his silent passionate kisses he shared with you.....

Is my inner feminist dead?

Yes I killed myself

Shut up!

I shook my thoughts away and began to read the file. It was in Mr Ambrose's neat handwriting.

As of   March 21 1839 it was found that Lord Dalgliesh was making inquires into several matters related to the making of a matrimonial alliance-

"Matrimonial alliance? really?"

"Just read the file Mr Linton"

"Yes sir! " I give him a mock salute which earned me one of his iciest glares.

with a female of unknown identity. This fact is verified by his continued interest and making the following    arrangements.
  - a marriage hall
  - white roses
  - invitations being printed(could not get hold of one)

And the file went on to list the other necessities of weddings.

As I continued reading a cold icy voice spoke "Mr Linton"

I looked up at him " Yes? "

"Respect Mr Linton"

"Yes sir?" I spoke through gritted teeth

"Adequate. Did you finish reading?

"No sir as you can bloody see sir that my bloody arse is taking great pains in reading the details of this bloody file with you constantly interrupting me"

"Be fast Mr Linton." He said, ignoring my language. "I took 5 minutes 15 seconds to read the entire file"

"you can take your precious precision and shove it... Nevermind"

I was too curious to know the wedding plans of Dalgliesh. I must agree it was a very grand arrangement. The marriage Hall itself would have cost him a fortune.

you are now thinking like your special someone who has captivating eyes chilseled face muscular....

Oh you are back again..

In the flesh. Or whatever stuff inner feminists are made of.

I shook my thoughts away and continued  reading the whole list and was convinced of Lord Dalgliesh either throwing a wedding for someone else or getting married himself.

"I don't see what you are so worked up about. Lord Dalgleish is getting married like all normal gentlemen must to some respectable lady or female of unknown identity as you put it. He's the peer of the realm. He's at the perfect age to get married and people expect that of him. And also of you but you don't care what society of you-"

"Mr Linton if you have finished your incessant useless rambling then I suggest that you listen to me."

That shut me up.

"Lord Dalgliesh is one of the richest men in England, certainly not the richest, and my rival. The fact that he has made several attempts at ruining my business and ending my life are proof of that."
