Five: Logan
August 13, 1:00 PM. Dwyer, VA.I get Devi's text just as I'm clocking out at work.
She's responding to the picture I sent her two hours before that, when I'd left the mini Starbucks and turned it over to Becca. (I was glad to be out of that shit. Direct consumer interaction is not my strong suit.)
Two things strike me about her first statement. One, she did not ask me where I had acquired the ninety dollars, the subject of the picture I had sent to her. Two, she had instantly filed the money away in our "joint funds", referring to the owner of the money as "we" immediately.
I've finished walking the parking lot; I get into my car and shut the door, all the while looking at my phone screen for her response.
She's typing.
My car is a maroon 1994 Honda Civic and I love it above almost all other things. I keep the paint job up, although my mom never stops talking about how I should change the color all together. (I don't think she takes into account the amount of time, effort, and money that would take. I also think she doesn't know just how little I make at Target.) The interior is spotless, but most of my things are, so I guess I can't use that to attest to my adoration of this vehicle.
I just really, really love my car.
