Denial

Lauren stared at it.

She refused to believe it. Although this was the tenth or so time she'd done it, she was still absolutely convinced of its inaccuracy.

She decided to double-check. She would go to the doctor's. And then he would tell her that it was all a misunderstanding and she would laugh and crack a witty joke about these things.

"I'm sorry, Miss Lopez. I am absolutely sure."

Lauren swallowed.

"I think I'm going to throw up."

The doctor nodded and handed her a bowl.

"Can you count on the father? Raising a baby is a highly expensive affair-"

"Thank you for your help."

Lauren swung off the bed and hurried out. It was pouring with rain outside, and she ran to climb into her car. She was soaking wet and sobbing by the time she got in.

"So, what's happening?"

She looked up and gasped. There he was.

"Get out! Get out! I hate you I hate you I hate you I wish I'd never met you get OUT!"

He swung the door open and got out. The second the door closed behind him, she burst into tears again.

Oh God.
