Chapter 2- Baby Don't Go

Today I have to say goodbye to Soda and not see him for who knows how long. Were going to see the gang to say bye and then heading for the airport.

"You ready Aurora?" Soda asked so down.

"Ready as I will ever be,"

"I'm so sorry babe," he pulled me into a hug and I wrapped my arms around his neck.

"It's ok you're gonna come back in no time and we'll have a baby and have a happily ever after,"

"I'll come back don't worry," I could hear him trying to hold back tears.

"Come on we gotta go,"

I brushed off my pants and walked to the door with my head down careful not to look at his face. I got in the car and positioned my body so I was looking out the window. The car ride was silent and depressing, I should be enjoying every moment I have with Soda but I can't even look at him without tears welling up in my eyes. I couldn't look at him in that uniform, it made me think of all the terrible things that could happen to him.

We arrived at the Curtis house and we got out in a hurry.

Everybody was dead silent when we walked in, the thing that shocked me was that everyone including Dally had a tear either falling down or their eyes were glossy. I looked around and saw Steve with his head in his hands, a letter in front of him, and Emarie was sobbing her eyes out.

I didn't even say a thing I just walked up to Emarie and stared whispering in her ear

"It's ok," over and over.

We were going through the same thing, she may not be married to Steve but they probably will end up getting married at some point.

I hugged her and held her close and rocked her back and forth, anything I could do to help her I was doing. When she finally pulled away she mouthed thank you and walked to the bathroom. I stood up with tears in my eyes and looked around at everyone else.

"Were coming with you Soda, all of us. Cause ya know if you don't make it back we don't feel like jerks for not seeing ya off," Dally said.

"Thanks man," he gave him a man hug and they were both sniffling.

I walked out the door to our car and got in. Emma, Steve, Soda, Pony, and Lizzie went with us and everyone else split up into Darry and Two-bits trucks.

The ride there was just the same as the ride to the Curtis house, silent, grueling, and just plain terrible. I still couldn't look at Soda like that, and Steve he didn't have a uniform but I couldn't look at him and think that he could be gone too.

When we arrived at the airport we all got out still silent and Soda and Steve grabbed their bags. I walked next to Soda and Emarie next to Steve and Pony next to Lizzie. Soda grabbed my hand and interlocked it with his and gave it a reassuring squeeze. A silent tear fell down and I quickly wiped it away.

It wasn't hard to find wear he was supposed to go, we just looked for all the guys in uniforms. A guy walked up to us that looked like the commander and gave Soda a handshake.

"Hello sir, mam." he held out his hand and I shook it just barely.

"We have 10 minutes till our flight takes off so say your goodbyes and prepare for the ride,"

I turned to Soda and I couldn't help but look at him, I had 10 minutes till he left.

The rest of the gang trickled in and the girls backed up while Soda started with Two-bit and gave each of them hugs.
