“Alice!”
Her books flew from her hands when she heard someone screaming her name, startling her. “Aww man…” she said to the books and papers now splayed out on the floor.
“Oh, sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you.” Sehun bent down, grabbed all her books and stuffing them under his arm. He stood up to meet her questioning gaze. A smile still across his lips, he nodded down the hall, motioning her to walk with him. She followed hesitantly.
“What did you want?” She tried grabbed for her books, but he put a protective hand over them, insisting on carrying them for her.
“There’s something I wanted to show you. I think you’re going to like it.” He walked faster, excited. They passed Grace on the way. Alice received an astonished look from her once Grace noticed he was holding onto her books. After a quick thumbs up and a sly grin, Grace skipped away.
Once outside of the drama club doors, Sehun stopped. “What? You want to join the drama club? I didn’t think you were into that kind of stuff.”
He shook his head, then pointed at a poster that was hanging on the door. The sign read; ANNUAL DANCE COMPETITION in big red letters. Alice read it out loud, “Competition for group or solo dancers. Cash prize of $500? Apply with Mrs. Lansford in the drama club room by Next Friday. What does this have to do with anything?”
Sehun rolled his eyes, “Really, Alice? I didn’t show this to you for no reason. I think we should sign up.” He crossed his arms and leaned against the wall, waiting for her reaction.
She starred at him for a few seconds, waiting for the punch line. Was he serious? He wanted them to be in a dance competition together? The two of them who did completely opposite types of dancing to team up and perform in a competition together? Alice couldn’t help herself, she busted out laughing, causing him to frown.
“Listen, that’s a swell idea and all, but it honestly makes no sense for us to dance together. We learned two moves from the other's style. How do you expect us to dance together?”
“Oh, give it a chance. We’re both pretty good dancers, I’m sure we can pull it off. Plus I have an idea.”
“I’m scared to ask.”
He smiled at her than quickly reached out and grabbed her hands, pulling her into him, startling her. He placed her left hand on his shoulder, and held her right hand in his own, then without notice, he started dancing, tango style, down the hall. Then, with a brief smile, he spun her around and brought her down into a dip. She gasped as she dropped, but got her head back together quickly and looked at him angrily. “You could have warned me.”
“That’s no fun,” he said, smiling down at her, “Plus you would have objected.” He pulled her up straight, still holding onto her hand, a smile still stuck on his face. “I was thinking we could mix both of our styles together to create one performance. We could definitely win first place if we pull it off the right way,” he grinned at her, his grip on her hand getting tighter from his excitement.
She pushed away from him and turned back to the poster. She bit on her lip as thoughts formed together in her head. They could have a fair chance of winning if they could accurately mix both hip-hop and lyrical in a way that didn’t look silly. A whole bunch of dance steps were already buzzing through her head. She turned back to him, and crossed her arms over her chest. “I’m in, But…” He punched the air and laughed, his excitement now blindingly plain on his face. “I said there’s a ‘but’.”
