(A/N: I just like to thank the wonderful miss231 for reading and craving my story! Tbh I thought it wouldn't get that much attention! :D And thank you, all my wonderful viewers too! The things you do means so much to me and Gaster and Grillby too! I encourage you to stick with me, and don't be afraid to give me feedback! Well anyways, back to the story!)
"You mean these are the old notes you told me about?"
"Uh y-yes! I'm s-sorry if it doesn't help you in any way! I didn't m-mean to lead you in the wrong direction a-and waste your time!"
"Alphys, it's fine. These are exactly what I'm looking for!"
We were in the lab, the stool I sat upon constantly tilting forward and back. I was observing the documented experiments that Alphys gave to me, with her peering around my shoulder from my right. I loved the evidence she gave me because it helped me connect what I learned from the River Person not too long ago.
(Flashback)
"You're serious. Are you sure this was a human child?"
"Yes. Now please don't mock them or I won't tell you anything about the Man."
I shut myself up quickly, still holding the grudge I have against humans close in my mind. Despite the countless number of reasons I have for hating humans, the River Person wouldn't hear any of it. We rode together in silence, the splashing of the water keeping a steady beat as our cat-boat-thing sped across. There were echo-flowers by the bay and the bright cerulean blue reflections crept along our path. They had a sort of sinuous path, like that of a snake.
"I'm sorry. Please, continue."
"The man was once a scientist to Asgore; his right hand man and a friend to the people. He had a spark in him. He was so determined to help those bound behind the barrier. In a way, he gave us the sun, providing energy for the whole Underground. And in a way, he gave us the stars; the bright gemstones placed in a way resembling the constellations on the roof of the mountain. But his biggest goal was to break the barrier. He didn't have the time for other humans to fall in. Instead he sought other methods."
"What were they?"
"No one knows. He shut himself up in his lab for as long as anyone could remember. He worked countless hours and stayed in solitude most of the time."
The River Person grew quiet. I didn't understand why. With the awkward silence nagging my head, I wanted to find a way to occupy myself. I took the time to take all of this information in, sparing a few questions to ask Alphys later. Some time passed with me counting the ripples in the water until the ferryman spoke again.
"Then one day, he just... disappeared..."

"Do you k-know what they say? I h-have been trying to figure it out for a while."
"Sadly, I don't, but I know the language. It's called Wing Dings."
"Oh. And what happened to the Man?"
"Well, according to legend, he's scattered. Across space and time as the River Person told me his followers claim. He speaks in hands, because look, some of the notes have hand symbols on them."
I point to a word that's more or less familiar to me. ☝❒♓●●♌⍓. I show Alphys the hand symbol in the word and she nods her head in understanding. Then her eyes landed on my face with a quizzical expression. I give her a slight movement of the head to speak.
"Where did you hear about this guy? And why did you come to me?"
"Well, Alphys, that all deals with my experiences late at night at the bar and some dreams I've had."
"You've told me about the hands-like ghosts in the bar prior to me getting you the notes. What about the dreams? Can you tell me about them?"
"Sure. You're in a treat though. You, me, and the Man, Gaster were in it."

With a wave to Alphys, I stepped out of the lab. Under my arm was a folder with copies of notes. In time, they would be helpful after examining them. The River Person greeted me with a smile, knowing I was heading home. Though exasperating, the Royal Scientist was able to provide me with as much as she could, despite my constant probing of the dream in her head. It was nice of her to even offer to help anytime I needed it.
When describing my dream to her, bits of revelation occurred. She recalled the "dooms day" at the lab, the machine in smithereens, and someone instructing her. But exactly who, she didn't remember.
"I knew what I was doing! It was the machine's fault!"
Chuckling, I reached into my pocket, pulling my keys into view. Finding the right one (the black and purple was my favorite), I put it in the lock. With two steps at a time, I climbed up the stairs to my room. I entered and found what I was looking for; my old bulletin board. Pins and paper were placed below it, never used until today. Using four index cards, in great letters and a Sharpie, I wrote out FINDING GASTER and placed it on top. I placed the folder right on my night stand, taking out the notes and, along with the index cards, placed it on the board. I stared at it for a while, a yearning growing in me to fill the board in its entirety. To use every pin and index card. To have the need to go to the store to buy more. To... have Gaster back. He never had the chance to have a normal death. Never the chance to rest in peace in his own dust. He was a great man who received an unfair end. It just wasn't right.
"I can't remember the moments we had. I'm sorry... I promise I will. One day. Just you wait."
