After we spent two days in Singapore relaxing the days away we got super busy. It was a quick turn around coming back home and back into reality. She was writing and recording more and I was preparing for next season. But before I close the chapter on the last one I get a day with the cup.

I return to my childhood home by myself because I had already taken Elizabeth from the band enough times this summer that she had to sit his one out. I guess that just means I have to win the cup again so she can have her day with it. But its okay she's not here because I was planning for something that wasn't going to involve her. Well not directly at least.

I drive up to my childhood home and smile to myself. It is always great going back to where you came from. So humbling and refreshing.

I jump out the car but don't go into my childhood home quite yet. First I go to my grandpas place which was one house down. I knock on the door and he answers with the biggest smile.

"Well if it isn't my favorite grandson" he teases.

"I'm your only grandson" I laugh as he pulls me into a hug. He invites me inside and hands me a iced tea before sitting on the couch with me.

"So, how have you been. You don't come home like you used to" he confronts me. Nothing ever gets past him.

"Yeah... I found something in Chicago I just can't find here or anywhere else" I admit.

"Is it the girl I met at the Stanley cup final" he asks.

"Yup, that's her" I assure him.

"I like her. She's real cute" he admits.

"She's a lot of things, and cute is one of them" I laugh. We catch up before I return to my childhood home. I needed that talking to. I don't even knock before entering my home and just walk right in.

"Guys! I'm home" I yell. I hear a bunch of footsteps and see my sisters all line up at the bottom of the stairs.

"Where is she" Erica asks.

"I'm a guy" I reply.

"Not you ya idiot. Where's Liz at" Jessica reiterates.

"Back in Chicago. She's working" I explain and they all start complaining.

"So what? We're supposed to hang out with you the whole time" Jackie asks.

"Please get over here and give me a hug" I laugh and they all start to chuckle. I pull them into a hug and squeeze them tight.

"Ow pat, that's hurts" Erica whines.

"That's what you get for acting like you didn't want to see me" I say punching her arm.

"Hey now, don't you two start your bickering" my mom warns coming down the stairs and I smile. Just seeing her makes me happy.

"Hi momma" I say pulling her into a hug.

"Hi baby. How are you" she asks taking my things and putting it in the spare.

"Good. Excited to get the cup today" I admit.

"That's good, and how is Lizzie" she asks.

"Really busy. They have to have the album done by the middle of October so they can promote it at the AMAs when they perform so they're working hard" I explain.

"That's good to hear. How are things with you two" she wonders.

"Great. We're doing good and having fun" I say.

"You gonna ask her to marry you" she asks.

"Actually, that's what I wanted to talk to you guys about. I wanted to purpose but wasn't sure how or when. Maybe you guys have some ideas" I shrug. The room falls silent as I realized I just dropped big news in a room of four women who love me and Lizzie and immediately regret saying anything. Before I know it I'm getting pulled into Jessica's room and was thrown into a chair. She pulls up a Pinterest page full of engagement rings and other things.

"That one" Erica says pointing to a admittedly beautiful wedding ring.

"It's pretty, but how do I know it's the one for her" I ask.

"We talked about it during the finals. She said that she always wanted a round halo diamond surrounded by smaller ones with a simple band. It will look great on stage while she's performing and isn't too big it looks awkward with her tiny hands" she explains.

"You've thought this through huh" I ask.

"I've been waiting for you to grow some balls and ask her to be part of the family for months. I've technically liked her before you and we text almost every day. So yes... I've thought this through" she claims.

"Okay, if you know so much how do I purpose" I wonder.

"On stage. You said their first show is in Chicago right" she asks.

"Yeah" I encourage.

"Invite all her friends and family. Make it all romantic. Music obviously means a lot to her, find the perfect song to come out and purpose right there in front of everyone" she suggests.

"That's not such a bad idea. But that's so far away" I whine. I know purposing doesn't actually make her my wife, but still.

"But if you do it before she leaves it'll mean everything to her. You're letting her know that you're not giving up because she's gone. It gives her something to hold onto while she's away. It'll mean the world to her" she explains.

"You're right. You're the best" I say getting out of the desk chair and giving her a hug.

"Alright, now you know what to do... don't fuck it up" she teases.

The cup comes into town and I have a great time taking it around. I take it to a group of veterans and they ask questions and I ask some too. They do a lot for this country, things I couldn't imagine doing. Giving them a reason to smile is pretty cool. They say that I'm their inspiration but they're all my hero. After that I take it around town to kids and let them see it. I love the kids and they love what I represent. I try my best to inspire these kids to amount to something bigger than their wildest dreams. That a little American Boy can excel in a Canadian sport for big guys. And that anything is possible if you put fourth the effort, and that includes marrying my best friend.
