You Can Run

As Yukio struggled to keep up with Rin and Amaimon, he could hardly believe his eyes.  Rin was running as if it were nothing, laughing and joking with Amaimon.  The duo would often stop for a moment to sniff the air or examine the ground, allowing Yukio the time he needed to catch up to the duo.  Finally, hours after night had fallen and when Yukio knew he could push himself no further, the duo stopped and seemed to notice his condition for the first time.

"Honestly Okumura, you should have said something.  Rin and I can keep up this pace for days and may not have noticed if you collapsed.  Behemoth can carry you while you rest." Amaimon was as monotone as ever.  Neither he nor Rin seemed overly concerned with Yukio's condition beyond not wanting it to slow them down.

After a moment of hesitation Yukio finally agreed to be carried and the group was off again.  This time, Rin and Amaimon picked up their pace and seemed to be going at twice their previous speed.  Yukio's shock was dulled by his exhaust as he drifted off to sleep, realizing that this was just another way his brother had changed and grown.

"I can't believe Big Brother forced us to bring him along.  He knows that this is too important for us to have to stop and slow down for a human." Rin complained as soon as he knew Yukio was no longer aware enough to hear him.

"He probably thought it would be funny when we were forced to carry Yukio.  Fortunately Behemoth can manage him and we can recover the ground we lost from our earlier pace."  Amaimon replied softly.

"Honestly.  He used to accuse me of being immature but I think he is the only one who will never grow up.  If his plots weren't so entertaining most of the time it wouldn't be worth working with him." Rin commented.

The two paused for a moment and shifted their course slightly to the east before continuing.  They spent the night speaking of the situation in Gehenna and the reactions so far between the Exorcists and Gehennans who had run into each other so far.  The Kappa they were tracking was one of the few creatures who refused to accept the treaty.  When he was finally found and returned to Gehenna he would stand before an impartial jury and most likely be sentenced to 10 years of torture before finally being granted death.

When Yukio finally woke up the next morning, he was shocked to see that Amaimon and Rin were still running and talking.  Once he was able to identify their location, he couldn't believe how far they had traveled in a single night.

"The Exorcist is awake."  Amaimon spoke the title as though it were lower than dirt.

"I noticed.  How was your rest Okumura?"  Rin's supply held no emotion.

"It was good.  I can't believe how far we have come.  How can you still keep going?  Any human would have collapsed from exhaustion by now."  Yukio began to ramble as he looked at the two demons running ahead of him.

"Did he even breath?" Amaimon switched to Gehennan.

"I have no idea, although I don't see how he could have." Rin replied to Amaimon's question before going back to English and Yukio.  "We are demons.  We have much higher physical limits than humans."

"So what else can you do that humans can't?  How well can you see and hear?  How much can you lift?  What language were you just speaking?"  Yukio's questions started rolling out after Rin responded to his initial inquiry.

"Enough questions.  We can lift more than the average, trained human." Rin's response was terse and after speaking he refused to answer any more questions.

"Amaimon, get ready.  I think we are getting close." Rin spoke softly as they entered another swampy area.

"Of course.  Do you want to go left and I will go right?"  Amaimon responded in an equally soft voice.

Rin simply nodded before veering slightly to the left.  Tanos was about to learn why running from the demon kings was such a bad idea.

Sorry this is short.  I promise to write more tomorrow, and may even give out another chapter later in the week.
