Rin spent the night after the battle mourning the loss of Yukio, or rather, mourning the loss of the brother he had known so many years ago, before the lies came falling down, and the Yukio that might have been, had things been different. As he lay in bed, shedding silent tears, Amaimon simply held him, offering him an equally silent comfort. Through all of the trials Rin had faced, his older brother had always stood by his side and offered his support.
The next morning, Rin woke up feeling refreshed but a little empty. He went to the war meeting that was being held, and heard the reports from the other battles that had been fought the previous day. As the battles were recorded on the map, it became clear that Yukio's death had shattered the remaining hope of the Vatican's forces. As the news spread, more and more battles were lost by the exorcists. There were even reports of entire sections of the enemy's army simply leaving or surrendering, offering very little in the way of resistance. Unlike with Angel's death. there was no new figurehead to reignite the cause. Rin estimated that in a couple of weeks at the very most the war would be won. He thus sent a message to the heads of the three nations of Gehenna, asking them to begin drawing up the terms of surrender for the Vatican.
The first time around, when Rin and Amaimon had initially presented the treaty to the Vatican, the rulers of Gehenna had tried to be very conservative in what they wanted. They had allowed the Vatican and the exorcists to be the enforcers in Assaiah and had only asked to be allowed to visit the surface, causing no harm to humanity. After the rogue exorcists had broken the treaty and then been backed by the Vatican, Gehenna was no longer willing to make any concessions. The new agreement would only allow Gehennans to enforce action against other Gehennans. The exorcists could observe and report, but would not be allowed to take action. Citizens of Gehenna would be allowed to visit and inhabit Assaiah, with no questions asked. If they broke the laws of the land they were visiting, they would be punished but they would be punished by their own leaders.
Rin knew that the Vatican would hate these rules, but he also felt that they had brought it upon themselves. Gehenna had tried to play nice but in the end it had come back to bite them. Now, they were ready to do anything and everything to protect their own.
As predicted, the war was soon finished. The Vatican was forced to sign the treaty that Gehenna drew up, and the exorcists were severely limited in what they were allowed to do. Humans who were unaware of the supernatural forces remained unaware for the most part. Those who did become aware of the other world that existed next to ours learned to coexist and even work with their supernatural neighbors. Over time, the Vatican began to lose power, waning into a small cult that whispered words of doom and gloom to humanity.
Meanwhile, Rin continued to grow into his role as his father's heir. He and Amaimon could often be found policing Assaiah, hunting down Gehennan rebels and ensuring their people were safe. They watched nations rise and fall, as humanity continued to grow and push its limits. He would never regret the choice he made to take a chance and embrace his demonic heritage.
