Here's A War!

Rin once again found himself entering Mephisto's school.  All travel to Assaiah had been discouraged immediately after Rin and Amaimon had reported to the Seelie, Unseelie, and Demon rulers.  In the case of those who had not yet reached the age of majority, travel was completely banned.  Now, Rin, Amaimon, and Avon, one of the vampires who survived the attack, were going to report the attack to the Vatican, and demand that the guilty parties be punished for their actions.  The Vatican's actions, or lack thereof, would determine the fate of the treaty.

"Rin, Amaimon!  How good to see you two again!" Mephisto energetically bounded forward and wrapped his younger brothers in a crushing hug. Neither demon reacted to his childish actions, simply exchanging an eye roll with each other.  Avon looked on with a faint smirk, amused at the antics of one of the eldest Demon Kings.

"Samael, please let go.  You act like you haven't seen us in months, but we were just here a few days ago." Rin dryly chastised his brother.

"You know you aren't supposed to call me that up here!  It just makes me so happy to see my youngest brothers.  You are always coming and going, but you never stay long enough to visit!" Mephisto pouted, yet Rin remained unaffected.

"Honestly Big Brother, act your age." Amaimon joined the conversation. "We need to go see the Vatican, they should be expecting us.  There has been another attack on citizens of both Gehenna and Assaiah this time."

Mephisto quickly sobered (at least as much as he was capable of doing) and stepped back from his brothers.  "Yes, the meeting is to take place in an hour.  The Vatican is anxious to hear your report on what has happened.  There are whispers among the exorcists that the group of Vampires went rogue and killed their human donors, but the evidence at the scene clearly suggested that the humans were killed by exorcists. We have tried to quell the rumors, but I fear that the rogue exorcists hidden among the loyal ones are spreading these lies in order to discredit you and put pressure on the Vatican to side against Gehenna if and when there is a conflict."

"Of course.  It seems that only one of the attackers got away, and their description perfectly matched that of Angel.  Gehenna is  crying for justice, as we did nothing to provoke an attack and have remained faithful to the treaty, severely punishing any of our peoples who have tried to break it.  I fear that  the Vatican will do nothing, and war will become inevitable." Rin sighed, frustrated with the exorcists who were causing so much needless death and destruction.

Mephisto guided the trio to the room where they would be presenting their version of events to the heads of the Vatican.  As Rin, Amaimon, and Avon settled into their seats to wait another thirty minutes for their meeting, the chamber doors were thrown open, and Yukio walked in.

"Mephisto, what do you need?  I am trying to . . ." Yukio trailed off as he noticed Rin's presence.

"Hello Yukio." Rin acknowledged his brother with a slight nod.

"Rin!  I had no idea you were coming.  What are you doing here? Do you know what happened at that castle? Did you get in trouble?  I missed you!" Yukio began walking towards Rin with an excited grin on his face.  However, Rin remained cool and aloof, giving Mephisto a slight glare before turning to Amaimon.

"One of these days Samael will push too far and I will be left with no choice but to kill him." Rin muttered to his brother.  The corner of Amaimon's mouth twitched and his eyes betrayed his mirth at Rin's comment.  To Avon and Yukio, he simply appeared nonplussed at Rin's threat towards Mephisto.

"As long as you realize that I will probably end up doing the same to Okumura.  The boy just doesn't know how to let go." Amaimon's dry response halted Yukio in his tracks.  A look of hurt flashed across his face when Rin said nothing to defend him, simply smirking at Amaimon's statement.  Mephisto, of course, chose this moment to interrupt.
