Chapter 2 The Beginning

   "So.." Started Shurnclaw, "Today I am going to teach you how to catch your own prey." JaggedPaw interrupted "That sounds fun!" JaggedPaw started wagging his tail as Shurnpaw spoke, "Today we will go to HillTrebs were prey is plenty. Then we will go on the afternoon patrol. Ok?" Jagged paw not paying attention to what ShurnClaw said because he was addmiring her fiery red pelt. ShurnClaw repeated, "Ok?" JaggedPaw shook his head and said "Yup"

   The two sisters with CherishPet were learning what herbs were for what. "Ragish leafs for stomach aches, Ragish roots for burns, jangle berries for chipped tooth, raget root for rat bites, and raget stems for wounds/cuts." The two apprentices tried their best to memorize it but that was hard for them.

   That was going on over and over while ShurnPaw lead JaggedPaw to HillTrebs. "Now First step Eye your prey, stalk it quietly so it does not run, Next you pounce a mouse will die from the punch but a vole or larger need a bite on the neck. You want to snap the neck when it's dead you will usually bury it in the dirt tell you are ready to gather it ok?" Said ShurnClaw the hunted for a while gathered a head back for camp. ShurnClaw saw ShaggyClaw and reported his son's progress in one sunhigh to dawn "JaggedPaw mastered this on the first day. In fact he caught art of our fresh kill." "Wow my son is strong and i new he would accomplish becoming a warrior." ShaggyClaw sounded excited about the first time in many moons.

   CherishPelt was teaching strongpaw and fernpaw what herbs for what she spoke in a small shy voice but her words were important. " Now remember Ragish leafs for stomach aches ragish roots for burns jangle berries for a chipped tooth raget root for rat bites raget stems for wounds/cuts and tobago juice for ticks!" Cherish pelt smiled when she finished the first list for the first day of practice. The two apprentices nodded.

   The dogs gathered around the fresh killed pile taking voles, rabbits, mice, and the leader and his helpers feasted upon the only spike deer. Jagged paw took a vole and sat next to shurn. "I'm sure proud of what we had caught today. I think we did great JaggedPaw." Said Shurn claw happily and proudly "Now hurry and finish up so we can get on the afternoon and patrol and check the borders to see if dangers are lurking. "Well if we are going to go let's go!" Jagged paw exclaimed very excitedly after all this is his first patrol.

   ShurnClaw went to gather the patrol dogs and get ready to leave. He walked over to the warrior's den and said, "Any of you dags wanna' come with me and JaggedPaw on the patrol." Three dags sat up and ShaggyClaws shook his pelt yawned and said, "I sure do" then ShurnClaw said "Anyone else?" Then TawgyClaws And FierceClaws stood up and said, "I do!" ShurnClaws counted the dogs losing track of how many dogs with her a lot, "Well that's five of us lets go round HillTrebs then go to three trees around our border of it. ok?" The dogs murmured in agreement and headed off for HillTrebs.

   JaggedPaw excited and hardly paid attention to a thing in front of him. Yet again he was admiring Tawgyclaws reddish-brown pelt then admired Feirceclaws golden pelt but her scars shown through the pelt. They were from the fight with the wolves a long while back she was a fierce warrior then and a fierce warrior now.
