So we had to write a short story today in class. The subject was 'your first day of high school' and this is what I wrote. Okay so it is completely lame and I can admit that because I suck at writing. Tell me what you think :)
How had this happened to me?! I had only been here for one hour and I already regrate choosing this school, why didn’t I just let mum choose?! Tears formed a pond in my hands; I hid away in the cubicle of the abandoned girl’s bathroom on the east side of the grounds, I couldn’t face the jungle that awaited me outside.
The shrilling bell rang through my ears and I knew I had to leave my safe place. My legs tremble as I slowly hop to my feet, I out stretch my arm and twist the lock to the door. A cool breeze welcomed me as I step out; I look up to see the giant hole that let the air in. I wonder- my thoughts were caught by screaming crowds that made their way to the classes closest to me. I stumble over to the bassinet and looked up to see the hideous creature that looked back at me. Brown curls fell in a mess around my rounded face that had turned from pale to blotchy and my eyes swelled like I had had an allergic reaction. I turned the tap and after an ugly gurgling sound the water rushed out splashing my tattered and stained uniform. I washed my face and did the best I could to scrub the grass off my dress; “stupid stains,” I grumble. I take one last look at myself and trust me I’m not pleased but I turn and leave anyway; I don’t get fair when I stop. Actually I only got to the toilet entrance. “Take a deep breath Cathy and deal with it,” I tell myself and work up enough courage to venter out into the unknown.
I head off to my first class which happens to be my worst subject; I shudder, ‘Algebra’. As I weave through the mass crowds I feel the stares of others digging into the back of me, great now everyone will single me out. Cathy Briggs the girl with the wild hair, tattered clothes and ugly face – I’m doomed! Finally, I reach the class and duck in trying not to disturb the writing class that sits in front of me.
“You’re late, uh-” the lady in the purple rimmed glasses stares blankly at me waiting for something, hmm what though?! Oh I know.
“Um it’s Cathy. And I’m very sorry, you see I got lost. I’m new and I-” she cuts me off from my rambling.
“Okay, sit down before you lose your breath,” and that was the first smile someone gave me today.
I quickly walk to the back of the room and plonk myself on a chair in the left corner, good no one near me to annoy me. I dump my old book bag on the floor and pull out a new book and my pencil case, I just settle in when I notice the whole class staring at me. The teacher didn’t notice how ever and their stares were unsettling. Their attention was taken by a girl entering the door. Wow, if only I had her looks! Her hair was a crisp golden colour that sat past her shoulders and her green eyes where to die for, lucky girl. I ignore her and the teacher; I start writing down the mass amount of work written on the board. I was interrupted by a tap on my shoulder; I look up sheepishly and notice the blonde girl blinking down at me.
“Is this seat taken?!” Even her voice was sweet and innocent as soft as an angel’s wing.
“Uh-um no. Not at all.” I stutter.
“I’m Ellie.” She announces sitting next to me. “You’re the new girl right?!”
I just nod and know that the only way she found out was by gossip and –
“Want to sit with me and my girls at lunch?!” Wow never thought that would happen.
I nod again. “Thank you, you’re ever so kind.” This was the first time I smiled today.
Before she could say more the bell went and our classmates were packing up to leave.
“Well meet me at the abandoned toilets on east side at lunch, kay?!” She says and waves goodbye.
“Kay,” I manage to call back as she left the room. I guess I’m not alone after all.
