Chapter 9:
SHE COULD FEEL the blood rushing out of her hands as she punched the bag in front of her continuously. She didn't care that she knew that Alec was very much still in love with her. She didn't care that he was terrified of who she was prophesied to become, and she most definitely didn't care that he was terrified of his own feelings. She was too, but the words he said had hit something in her. Now, she truly had no one on her side. Clary could rarely make any time for her seeing as she was trying to find her mother, Simon despised all to do with this world and was still pissed because he felt like the last pick for her, and Isabelle was busy with her mother. Alec had been the only person from the beginning to regularly make her feel less mundane than she was, and now he looked at her as worse. For the first time since she had been introduced to the shadow world she felt utterly alone.
Alanna heard the voices of Alec and Clary, she could hear they were fighting, and Alec was teaching her too. Alanna had never been one to feel jealousy especially when Clary was involved, but at that moment she felt completely overwhelmed with it. She felt sick to her stomach, and no matter how hard she tried to remind herself that she was supposed to be this heartless person, her feeling for him swarmed her. For a single moment, she felt as if being heartless was better than being heartbroken. "Absolutely not, not without permission," Alec's voice denied.
"I'm in, Clare," Alanna said walking into view. "I would love to get out of here, but if Alec doesn't let you go I will. Nothing is keeping me here anyway, I'm a mundane. I can leave whenever I'd like." Alec stiffened showing a flicker of worrying knowing that absolutely nothing was keeping her here. In fact, the Clave would love if the mundane jumped out of their world.
"Neither of you are going anywhere without the Clave's permission," He hissed.
"The Clave won't care about me they don't know anything about me other than I'm a human," She replied cooly. "I don't belong in your world, and they know it." He shuddered at her tone.
"You will be one of us soon," He said. "So, you are my responsibility."
"Unless I don't drink from the cup," She said. Both Clary and Alec froze. She didn't mean to let the thought slip. She didn't mean for them to know she was truly considering dying, so she quickly covered it up. "I'm joking, why wouldn't I drink from that cup? I don't want to die, anyway we should go. This could help up us in the long end, what are we doing anyway?"
Clary forgot about the ordeal instantly, but that didn't mean it wasn't piercing Alec's mind. He was left with the simple thought that she would rather die than be one of them, and she would rather die than be with him. But he knew that them not being together would be his fault entirely. He pushed her away, not the other way around.
"The box that my mother claimed was for my father, Jonathon Christopher," She said.
"What do you think is in it?" She replied.
