Chapter 7:

By the time Alanna and Alec had returned to the main room, Alec had told her about Magnus's helpless flirting. Alanna couldn't keep the laughs contained, because it was obvious Alec was in love with Jace. Also, Magnus brought up steak, medium-rare. As soon as she came into the room Magnus smiled at Alec,"Every time I move I get an itch to redecorate. Normally I love a dirty lair, but this one is just sloppy." "Oh god," Lanna groaned at his dirty joke. "I believe in payment for services rendered. Thank you for defending the warlocks." He walked to Izzy and clasped the ruby around her neck. She smiled,"I couldn't." "Oh, but you could. And you should. The Lightwoods have been wearing this for years. Besides, this would look silly on your brother. About Alec, is he more of a flower or cologne man?" Magnus spoke and Alanna felt that angry feeling build up inside her. "Okay," She quickly interupted. "So how do we summon this memory demon?" "Jealous are we," He smiled. "What are you implying?" She spat.He turned to Clary. "Are you certain?" He asked. "Summoning such a powerful demon could be lethal." "I'll do anything to save my mother," Clary replied."Where is the demon?" "Okay pretty boy get your team ready," He spoke and Jace being the cocky son of a bitch he is stood foward, but Alanna knew Magnus had been speaking to Alec."Not you,"Magnus quickly corrected Jace. "You." He pointed to Alec, and Alanna felt that pang in her heart once more. Magnus and Clary went into a room while Alec strided toward the rest of his friends.

"Alec," Alanna walked to the hazel eyed boy. "So...Magnus is full on flirting." She put on a fake smile although she hated having Magnus flirt with him right in front of her eyes, even if he knew she had a crush on him. Crush. I do not like Alec Lightwood, no way. Alec glanced at the girl beside him,"I don't know what your talking about." "Magnus is flirting with you," She hissed, and Alec couldn't help seeing that pang in her heart through her eyes. "Alanna...do you-" He wanted to ask the simple question of her liking him because he felt the same way. He just couldn't find the words to describe it without getting her to close herself off and him to do the same. "I-I-I'm sure he was not," was all he got out even though he knew for a fact that Magnus was indeed flirting. "We should...uh go." She looked up seeing Magnus talking to the others. "Alec-" She grabbed his wrist wanting to tell him her own feelings, but just like he had she shut down. "I-I don't know what we're about to face. So I-I-" His eyes filled with hope, because their feelings would go unannouced unless someone told the other. And he didn't know if he could possibly be the one to break the news. "I-we should go," She finished taking her hand back and walking into the room along with Magnus. She had no problem with boys, but she had never felt so nervous-even with Raphael.

"Jocelyn was right, your artisty is beyond compare," Magnus praised the red-head. "I don't know about that,"She quickly replied brushing off the compliment. Magnus smirked looking to Alec," Oh, the only other person I've known who could draw as well was Michelangelo, who was excellent in bed, I might add." Alec smirked liking the attention even if he only had feelings for Jace-and now Alanna."Okay. We're ready. Everyone take your place along the pentagram. We must initiate a bond. Once this bond is sealed, it cannot be broken until the demon retreats. No matter what happens, we must not let go of each other's hands. Alanna you must join me unfortunatly. You're a mere mundane, and alone you may be to weak to survive the ceremony." She glared at Magnus, she wasn't in the mood he had practically kidnapped her. "She can stand with me," Alec quickly suggested. She smiled at him and as everyone linked hands, she was forced to look deep in his eyes and let her arms surrond his chest. Their eyes never leaving each other and making their feelings grow. All they wanted to do was kiss one another. Isabelle laughed at the slow pace,"You guys are pathetic." And she clasped her hand with the rest. "I will lead the ceremony, and you all must do exactly as I say. The demon's name is Valak. And at some point, he will ask for payment in exchange for Clary's memories. "What do you mean? What kind of payment?" Alanna asked quickly. "We will see. Let us begin." Magnus explained. "The necklace, it's pulsing," Isabelle spoke. "Valak is among us do not break the bond!" Magnus yelled. "Hold on!" Jace yelled at Clary who was struggling but Alanna couldn't even let go. She and Alec had no struggle in the world their feet placed perfectly unmoving on the floor. "I'm trying!" Clary cried. "It's time, the demon demands payment!" Magnus spoke. "What does it want!" Alec spoke. "We must each relinquish a beloved memory of the one we love the most." Magnus replied.

Joclyn was shown for Clary, and her eyes got watery. As soon as the red-head mother disappeared, a bright smiling Alec showed in the demon's tornado. Isabelle smiled, and hated that her favorite memory of her brother would be gone forever. Then next was Alanna, and instead of showing the people she believed she loved-Simon, her father, Clary, Rebecca, her mother, Clary's mother, Dot. All that showed was darkness, as if her heart was cold and blank. Magnus's eyes widened but the sceneary changed and showed Alec's loved one. Who had been Jace, but the memory began to flicker between Jace and Alanna. Her own eyes widened, and Alec pulled away. "No its not true! The demon decieved me!" He yelled. "Don't break the bond!" Magnus screeched. "Al-" Alanna tried but it was to late and he was pushed into the wall. The demon quickly grabbed Jace and then Alanna. Alanna let out a scream feeling herself being drained of her own life. She felt herself drifting, she watched as images flickered. And everyone she thought she loved ran through her mind, but the demon had spoken that love did not exsist in her heart, and it scared her. Her eyes turned black, and only Alec saw it as he tried to pull her out while everyone else held onto Jace. Alanna's vision darkened and she saw Alec in her mind. His smile. As they stood together, their hearts beat as one. As if they were perfectly molded together, made for each other. And it scared her, because she knew if she hadn't loved any of her own family how would she love a man. A man she knew barely anything about. She was oblivious to Clary plunging a sword through the demon, and she fell into Alec's arms. "Hey Lanna," He whispered. "It's okay. It'll all be okay." Her tears clouded her dark state, and without even being consious to the situation spoke,"Nothing will ever be okay."
