"Thank you, Gretta," Kylie said as she blew on the steam coming from the tea Gretta had made for her.
Actually she'd made tea for all of her guests, but Jill refused to touch it, she only sat by the table and shot the old lady strange looks.
Gretta's kitchen looked exactly like Kylie thought it would look like. It mostly consisted of the wooden kitchen counters, the table they were sitting at, and a few chairs. 70% of the kitchen was made out of wood, except for the baker's oven and an old, rusty sink. Kylie wondered about the sink. Did she have a plumbing system?
But the kitchen wasn't as big as the library, more or less.
Sherbert was polite enough to drink his tea, even complimenting it, but Jill hadn't said a thing.
Kylie thought it was because she was shy, but Gretta had been nice to them. Even agreed to let them sleep over.
"Oh that was nothing, love," Gretta said and smiled sweetly to Kylie.
Kylie returned the smile and took a sip of her tea.
She was dying to know the cause of her death and when it might happen. What could it be? Kylie was so curious.
"So... about my death," Kylie started and put the tea down. "Could you tell me about it? I figured it could be good to know... you know."
"Why would anyone be interested in knowing?" Gretta asked seriously. Her face stayed blank, but her eyes showed worry. "Your destiny cannot be changed by knowing. The only change will happen in your mind- always thinking about it, always worried."
Kylie nodded. "Yeah... but I'm a nosy person."
"Fine," Gretta slammed her cup of tea down on the little plate, causing a screecing sound and a few drops of tea hit the table. Kylie jumped back in her chair. The sudden change of mood was drastic.
"You will die by the hands of the government, executed to the public eye by beheading. A laughing stock to the whole town," she said without pausing. "You have to run, Kylie, and that fast!"
A loud thud coming from outside made everyone around the table to whip their heads towards the window. A cold breeze swept over the kitchen.
It was too dark to see anything and the wind was howling. Kylie believed one of the horses had made the sound. Or maybe a fallen twig.
"But why is my death prominent to you-" Kylie was about to ask when she was interrupted.
"Stop it! I cannot let you keep spreading these lies anymore!" Jill said frantically. She'd stood up from the chair and was now pointing an accusing finger at Gretta.
"You are a liar and a heathen, fortune telling does not exist- it cannot be done! You're trying to poison our minds with your meaningless words, but I can see what it is you are doing," Jill yelled, her cheeks in a flaming red. Sherbert pulled her hand to try to calm her down, but she only jerked her arm away.
