His screams were loud, as my first instinct was comfort him. I moved to stand above his head; I gently put the leather belt into his mouth for him to bite on and tightly held his C-spine so the only way he could look was at me. The two other guys held his other arm and legs down as Roy dug the bullet from his shoulder. He slowly lost consciousness again, and I put the oxygen mask in place.

Roy finished with the guys standing against the wall and myself, stroking Liam's forehead. "Take him up to Cassidy's room. I will be up to set up the IV's in a few moments. Cassidy, have the restraints set up." We all nodded in understanding of our tasks as I took off first to get the restraints secured. When the two men appeared delicately carrying Liam and the oxygen tank my heart melted. Even these giant wolves had gentleness about them. They set him down on the bed, and I gentle secured his wrists in the leather restraints.

"Why does he need those?" The blond asked.

"He gets agitated with the needles so it's for his protection. What are your names?" I asked looking to them.

"I am Luca, his name is Alaric. We are his friends." He spoke, his voice cracked and I understood why.

"I'm sorry I only bring pain to him..." I whispered looking to Liam. Roy appeared inserting both of the IV's and checked his work.

"I will deal with Brooke accordingly. Stay with Liam, let me know if he gets worse." Roy explained before he went from the room. I turned my attention back to Liam and took his hand in mine.

"Why is it that it's only during times like these I realize how much you mean to me? You risked your own life again for me." I whispered dropping my head to his forearm feeling how warm he was.

"Did you know that being a bitten, he couldn't mate? Someone could mate with him, but he couldn't have the attraction first. He didn't think it was possible to have a mate and watching everyone mate around him he lost hope. Until you came. He hoped you would say the word, make him forever yours. He never meant for anything to happen with Brooke. She used his sadness against him." Luca explained and the tears streamed down my cheeks.

"Mine... Do you hear me, Liam you are mine, my mate." My voice shook as I cried—almost yelling seeing his cheeks twitch at my outburst. "I saw that, Liam I saw that twitch. Come back to the living."

His lips parted slightly as he moved under the weight of the blankets but his eyes stayed closed. He didn't wake but he stirred which was progress. Luca and Alaric stayed near watching how their friend stayed still but his cheeks twitched every time my fingers brushed his skin.

"You were through this before... How long did it take for him to wake?" Alaric asked.

"Last time was over a week—but he was shot in the stomach as you remember. His body had to heal. This time I do not know since he quit breathing for a few moments. The silver has been in his body for too long." I whispered knowing it was true. He couldn't breathe fully on his own without the mask.

We all sat in silence watching Liam. "I can't do this, go find Roy. I want something more done." I spoke looking to Luca who nodded and the guys left quickly. "I am going to make you feel better."

When Roy came into the room he had already figured out what I wanted him for. He injected the pentobarbital into the IV, easily inserted the ET tube into Liam's throat, feeding tube up his nose into his stomach, secured the C-spine collar and inserted the cath tube. He did it all with no words. He concentrated and finished the task at hand and quietly left.

"What did he do? I thought he was getting better, he was moving to your touch." Luca asked, his jaw tightening.

"I couldn't risk him seizing again. If he stopped breathing again, he might not come back... This way his body has time to heal completely..." I spoke looking to the guys then back to Liam. "It shuts down his entire system, the machines are keeping him alive, and his body will heal itself. Will basically reboot."

"Is he in pain?" Alaric asked as my jaw tightened looking to Liam.

"I cannot know for sure. He could be in his own dream world. No one can know what is going on in his head. It could be bliss—or it could be his own hell." I spoke taking Liam's hand in my own tightly.

Liam's Comatose State

It was quiet where he stood. Nothing was around him, just empty darkness. "Hello? Is anyone there?"

"Why would I answer if this was just meant you mess with you?" The voice spoke as he whipped around as voice came from all directions.

"Who are you?"

"I am who you fear most." The voice seemed to change—into her voice. "What's the matter Liam? She could never love you, you know that right?"

"She does love me..." He whispered as the vision of Cassidy appeared before him.

"How could she love you, hmm? You are a bitten... She is the first pure female of her time. She deserves a pure blooded man." The vision of Cassidy spoke.

"She makes her own choices; her choice is to love me. She will always choose me." He smiled knowing the truth.

"Silly, stupid Liam; she loves another. You heard it yourself—Eli. She will always love him. Roy didn't force her to fall in love with him." The voice said.

"He is dead. She will always care for him, I have accepted that. She still chose to love me..." He answered yet again knowing what he felt and the truth.

"Then why did she choose to put in this state? To lock you into your own body; restrained and rendered useless—tubes and needles, leather and your broken body that will just be a burden on her." The voice again meant to agitate.

"She would only do what was meant to help me..." He own voice faltered now.

"She only does what works for her." The vision of Cassidy looked now straight into his eyes and smiled.

Back to Real Life—Cassidy by his side

"It's been two weeks. When will he wake?" Luca spoke drawing my sleepy eyes gaze to him.

"I don't know. He must wake on his own. He must breathe on his own before the tube is removed now. It could take months... He could be in battling his own demons in his head, and it could be only up to him now." I spoke realizing I finally spoke the truth.

"You think he's fighting his own fears?" Alaric asked drawing my attention.

"Yes. He needs to find his way back, and to me."I answered looking back to Liam. "You hear me, come back to me. Fight hard, fight against your demons. Know I give you strength." I gently took his jaw inmy hand.
