Cora Mone Reefius had always believed in magic. Since she was a little girl, she would long to hear of stories about faeries and mermaids, intrigued by witchcraft. But her parents strictly forbade it. They only knew about one type of magic: Black magic, and were prepared todestroy any evidence of it. As a young girl, Cora would occasionally sneak books about necromancy from the school library home, being extremely cautious about her parents. Once, she had brought home a book about witches and you should have seen the mortified look on her parents faces. She never understood what her parents had against magic. Even her brother, Tristan, had been turned into one of them( though he enjoyed listening to tales of merpeople).

" Cora come on down for breakfast!" Annie Mone Reefius called from the kitchen. Despite her rebellious behavious, Annie loved her and was proud to have an intelligent and ambitious daughter. However, Cora had began acting rather peculiar lately. She would often start muttering under her breath in what sounded like a completely different language. When he was upset or angry, ' things' would happen. Once, Cora was enraged because her brother was teasing her at dinner and shortly after, the glass exploded to shards. If Cora was extremely upset, it would start to rain or a thunderstorm would approach. And Annie Reefius knew it wasn't coincidental for it had happened one too many times.

About a good seven minutes later, Cora came rushing down the stairs, her reading glasses perched on the tip of her nose.

" What were you reading?" asked her mother.

" Just my science textbook." replied Cora, taking her glasses off. Of course this was a lie. The day before, Cora had brought home a book on Lycanthropes. She was awestruck by the way people could shape-shift into therianthropic hybrid wolf-like creatures  . Certainly she had stayed up late the night before reading and woken up only to grab the book once again. Her mother nodded before passing her breakfast, which was gobbled up by a hungry Cora.

Once breakfast was over, Cora ran up to her room, shoved "Lycanthropy" into her coat, and headed out the door. Around that time each day, she head off to the meadow near her house to read. There was serenity at this time of the morning, perfect for reading. As soon as she shut the door, she heard the crinkling of paper. Looking under her shoes, she saw an envelope.

" That's odd" she thought," There's no post on Sundays.". The envelope was thick and heavy, made of yellowish parchment, and the address was written in emerald-green ink. There was no stamp. Turning it over, she saw a purple wax seal underneath a badger, snake, lion, and eagle surrounding a large letter H. However what she found astonishing, was the fact that the letter was addressed to her. Never before had Cora received a letter apart from her aunt Tonya, who often wrote about her vacation in Hawaii.

Cora opened the envelope, her hands trembling. Inside was a letter made of the same thick parchment as the envelope. She began reading the emerald- green words.
