I woke up with a dull pain still in my chest and grumbled as I climbed out of bed. I walked into the kitchen while putting on my hoodie. I got some breakfast and headed to the living room. It was just passed eleven when someone knocked on the door. Apart from glancing at the door, I made no move to answer it, however when the person knocked again, but with more force I rolled my eyes and went to open it.

I was getting ready to tell whoever it was to go away but stopped when I saw Wally on the other side.

“Why aren’t you at school?” I asked as he walked past me and into the kitchen.

“Thought you’d like some company,” he said as he placed a bag on the table.

“What’s that?”

“Soup. Sit back down and I’ll warm it up.”

I looked at him as he turned to the microwave before I turned and sat back down and waited for him to finish.

I watched TV till I heard a beep and looked over as Wally placed the soup on the coffee table in front of me and sat down next to me. I smiled at him and started to eat. It was silent as we watched TV and once I was done he turned and looked at me.

“How are you feeling?” he asked with concern.

“Chest still hurts a bit, but it’ll be find by tomorrow,” I sad as I got up to throw the container out.

“Why did you have a panic attack?” he asked as I sat back down.

I thought for a moment trying to figure out what to tell him.

“I guess the thought of a wolf eating me scared me,” I said back trying to make a joke about it.

I glanced over at him as he grabbed my hand.

“I’ll never let anything hurt you Malia. I’ll die before I let that happen.”

I stayed still as he looked right into my eyes as he said that and I pulled my hand back as I felt a blush come to my face and a weird feeling form in my stomach. I looked back at the TV and smiled as I saw one of my favourite shows was coming on.

“Let’s watch this,” I said as I turned the channel.

“Jerry Springer?”

I nodded at him and smiled when he agreed after I told him it was my favourite. We spent the rest of the day watching TV and talking. When it was around three Wally got ready to leave. I walked with him to the door. Before he could leave I pulled him into a hug and as we pulled away I felt him lean in close and peck me on the cheek before walking out. I closed the door and leaned against it till I got my bearings and headed back to the living room. I watched my shows till Mr. Kent came home and gave control of the remote over to him. When Mrs. Kent came home she handed me work she picked up from the school and I went to start on it.

The rest of my days off went by quick and on Monday I was back at school. The ride there, Wally was telling me how Michelle and Emily were excited for me to be back and what I missed in math. We pulled into the parking lot and the second I stepped out of the car I was tacked in a hug by Emily. As we entered the school I saw posters on the wall for a dance for this Friday.

“How long have these been up?” I asked Emily as I stood in front of one of the posters.

“Last month,” she said coming up beside me.

“Are you going?” I asked as I started towards our class.

“Jason taking me,” she said dreamily with a goofy smile on her face.

I shook my head at how silly she was acting, but I could help but wonder if somebody would ask me to the dance. It’s every girls dream to be asked to a dance.

The day past quick and so did the rest of the week. Before I knew it, it was Friday and here I was eating lunch, kind of bummed that I hadn’t been asked to the dance. I looked up from my food to see both Emily and Michelle glaring at Wally, and Wally staring right back. None of them were talking with their mouths but you got this feeling they were communicating with each other. I blew air as I went back to eating. When I was done I left with Wally to go to my next class.

We were walking through the hallway when Wally stopped and since I wasn’t paying attention I walked into him.

“What’s wrong?”

He turned to face me as he rubbed at the back of his neck avoiding eye contact.

“Would you…. I mean if you wanted to…..?” he stumbled, but then trailed off mumbling something.

I cocked my head to the side and looked at him confused, not use to seeing him like this since I meet him. He sighed and looked down before looking up and straight into my eyes.

“Do you want to go to the dance with me?” He asked.

On the outside I was calm, but on the inside I was jumping with glee.

“Ya sure,” I said with a blush, trying to hold my excitement in, but it broke free and Wally smiled and nodded to himself before taking my hand and resuming our walk. The rest of the day I don’t think my smile left my face and when I saw Wally at the end of the day waiting for me it just got bigger.

The ride home we talked about the dance and what time I should be ready for. For the first time I was excited about wearing a dress and getting dressed up. When we got to my house I leaned across the car and gave him a hug before hopping out and hurrying inside.

“Mrs. Kent!” I called as I let the door slam behind me.

“Hey! Don’t be slamming doors!” I heard Mr. Kent holler as Mrs. Kent walked out of their room.

“Yes dear?” Mrs. Kent asked as she walked into the kitchen.

“Wally asked me to the dance tonight, and I need to buy a dress,” I rushed out.

Mrs. Kent broke into a smile as she pulled me into a hug and gushed like a mother would. She gave me the keys to her car and money and wrote me directions to where I could go shop.

“I’ll be back by 6,” I said as I left and started the car.

I followed the directions Mrs. Kent gave me and thought about what kind of dress I wanted to get.
