Malia’s pov
A day later I was still stuck in the hospital. The police officers had come back to go over the report but left pretty quick. Mr and Mrs. Kent have been with me all day keeping me company, but besides them and the nurses coming in every so often, I was by myself. Currently I was rotting my brain with a rerun of Maury when there was a knock.
“Come in,” I yelled without taking my eyes off the television.
I sat up when I heard my name being called and was rewarded with a hug from Emily, with Damion standing behind her.
“Hey, how’s it going?” I asked as I tried to ply Emily’s arms off of me.
“We were so worried about you. We were also worried about Wally, because he was so worried about you,” Emily ranted as I stared at her.
“How are you Malia?” Damion asked, cutting Emily off.
“Besides a few scraps and bumps I’m fine.” I answered as they both sat down.
It was quite between the three of us with the only sound coming from the tv as I looked down at my hands before asking a question.
“Where’s Wally?” I asked, still looking down, not noticing Emily and Damion smiling at each other at my question.
“He has a few things to take care of, but asked me to tell you that he’d be by soon to see you,” Damion said with a soft smile.
I smiled back and nodded and turned back to the tv. The three of us stayed like that for about an hour watching tv with a few comments here and there before a nurse came in needing to check a few things, which they took as their cue to leave. I waved them off as they walked out the door and the nurse did what nurses do.
“If nothing happens in the next hour the doctor might release you tonight,” the nurse said as she was writing on my chart.
“That’ll be nice,” I said as I laid back and stared at the celling, dreading going outside.
“You got some nice friends there,” she said before she left.
“Ya, I guess I do,” I said to myself with a smile, before I rolled over and took a nap.
I woke up to someone shaking me and looked through blurry eyes to see Mrs. Kent.
“Whats going on?” I asked as I sat up and rubbed my eyes.
“We can take you home. We already signed the released papers. You just need to get dressed,” Mrs. Kent said, pulling the blankets off me and pulling me out of bed and pushing me into the bathroom with a bag of clothes. I got dressed and before we left Doctor Cooper stopped us to talk to Mr. and Mrs. Kent before turning to me.
“You know doc, as cool as you are, I really hope I don’t ever have to see you again,” I said.
“Me to Malia,” he laughed as he walked off.
The ride home was quite. When we arrived I went to my room and sat down at my desk and pulled out my sketch pad and started drawing. I don’t know how long it was before I was interrupted by a knock at my door. I closed my book as I gave permission for whoever it was to come in.
“Hey,” I said with a smile as Wally closed the door behind him.
“Hey Malia,” He answered as he took a seat on my bead as I joined him.
“Are you feeling better?” He asked
“Ya, I am.”
“I’m really sorry Malia, about what append. I really am,” he said as his hand came up and rubbed at the back of his neck, which I noticed he does when he’s nervous.
“It wasn’t your fault,” I said as I took hold of his hand and felt him squeeze back.
“It sure feels like it.”
I didn’t say anything; instead I leaned over and hugged him which he returned.
“I have something for you,” he said as he pulled back and reached down at his feet and pulled up a gift bag.
I took it from him and looked inside. Inside was an art book and charcoal pencils. I looked up at him as he started to talk.
“I was going to get you flowers, but flowers die after a while, and Emily said you like art, so I figured you’d like this a whole lot better,” he said quickly.
I smiled at him and pulled him into a hug and mumbled a thank you as his hands rested on my back.
We pulled away quickly as the door opened and Mr. Kent stood in the doorway looking at us.
“This door stays open,” he said with a glare at Wally before leaving.
“I should leave it’s getting late,” Wally said as he got up.
I followed and led him into the living room where Mr. and Mrs. Kent where watching tv.
“Leaving already?” Mrs. Kent asked.
“Ya it’s getting pretty late and there’s school tomorrow,” Wally answered as he started to put his shoes on.
“Smart idea. You should do the same,” Mr. Kent said while looking at me.
“I’m not going to school,” I replied back.
Everyone turned to look at me.
“I’m not leaving this house ,” I added.
