THERE WAS NO ROOM in Simon's crappy van. Simon was in the driver seat, Clary was in the passenger, Alec was sitting behind Clary, Izzy was next to Alec, and Jace was sitting behind Simon. Valerie had to sit on someone's lap since she's the "smallest." But she didn't complain when everyone voted —besides Alec— that she has to sit on Alec's lap. But, the worst part, Valerie is hungry. Hungry for blood. She hadn't had any for two days and she's getting weaker and weaker every minute. On the way to Pandemonium, Alec decided to wrap his arms around her waist to keep her in place considering Simon is a horrible driver and Valerie was struggling to hold on.

          "Guys."

           "Yeah?"

"Can we just talk about the fact Alec has his arms wrapped around me."

Valerie jumped out of Simon's van, the whole ride to the Pandemonium, Jace and Simon were arguing about random stuff and Valerie and Clary were arguing over the radio. As the group of six made their way down the alleyway, Clary started walking faster. She soon came to a stop and grabbed her necklace, gasping immediately after. "No!"
Clary then took off running and Valerie groans, joining the group and following after her.

              "Clary!"

Clary ignore's Jace, so Valerie steps in and grabs Clary's arm. "Clary stop! Where are you going?"

Clary looks at Valerie, tears in her eyes and Valerie regrets raising her voice at the Fairchild. "Two men, circle members.... the same ones who came to my house, who took mom. They have Dot. They're gonna hurt her or kill her. We have to stop them!"
Clary took off running again, this time Valerie stayed by her side.  They entered the Pandemonium and Clary slowly came to a stop. "No." Clary's breath was trembling. "She was just trying to help me. Now she's gone."

Simon puts a hand on Clary's shoulder comfortingly. "Clary, I'm sorry."

"You don't understand. Dot's like my big sister."

Valerie growled. Valerie hadn't seen her siblings for more than 20 years, yet you don't see her complaining. When her twin supposedly "died", she didn't go around asking for comfort. When her twin locked up her other siblings, she didn't go around asking for help to get them back. But of course, she can't say anything. Clary doesn't know she has siblings and she doesn't want to blow her cover.

Valerie could hear the demons around, the smell of sulfur burning her nostrils. "It's not safe here."

"Hope is right." Alec agrees. "We have to go back to the institute right now."
