In Biology class we're taught the water effect as I put it; that a glass always overflows when full.

My glass was full, and overflowing; leaving nothing left as the new water drowned out the old.

I retain only the distant memories; that would represent the water around the glass that refuses to part. 

Come back it would shout

and plead that it can't do it alone

But like water, it evaporates at some point.
