I wake up at the crack of dawn and look at Henry. Still asleep. I sigh and look up at the sunlight that's shining through the water. What's going to happen? I wonder. How are we going to get out of this? How are we supposed to survive without getting caught? Henry starts to stir and I realize I've been staring at him, so naturally I look away.
He mumbles groggily, "Mornin' Myra."
I nod back to him, whispering, "Morning, Henry."
He gives me a concerned look, and I look away again. I shut my eyes hoping that it's all a dream. A crab pinches me. Nope, not a dream. Great. Just great.
My stomach rumbles. "Well, uh, we need to you know.."
He asks, "What are you talking about?"
I grumble, "Follow me."
I swim up to the surface looking around. There's two pirates on rowboats by the cliff. "Sit and watch," I tell him. I dip back under and start singing.
Hear my voice beneath the sea.
Sleeping now so peacefully
At the bottom of the sea
Sleep for all eternity!
I hear them go quiet after shushing each other. I swim up to the side of the boat.
The pirate says, "H'llo. Yer a-"
I cut him off by putting my finger to his lips. "My name's Myra."
I continue to sing, and he leans down. I smile, putting my hands on his neck. He leans forward more, and I pull him down into the depths. The other pirate is still under my trance, and I feel Henry staring at me. But I don't break eye contact with the pirate until I reach the very depths, and then I let go.
I swim back to Henry.
"So this is what you Sirens do? Kill?"
I sigh. I expected just as much. I casually say, "Yeah pretty much. It's how we 'eat'. I guess. It's fun. The other one's yours. We feed off of the emotions, and if they don't have strong enough emotions, we use just the energy."
He swims back a bit. I say, "Don't worry. Once you open your mouth, it's fine. Calm down." I grab his hand. I drag him to the surface and I whisper to Henry, "You can do this." He nods. He starts singing. Its soft, but he gets more confident with every note.
Let my voice lead you this way
I will not lead you astray
Trust me as we read the side
Jumping out where men have died!
Henry drags him out of the boat, pulling his long beard down towards the other dead pirate. Once the pirate is dead, Henry swims back up to me, looking worried. "Did I really just kill a man?"
I cross my arms and smirk. "Yup. How are you feeling?"
He gives me a weird look. "Strangely energized. Is that supposed to happen?"
I give him a short, curt nod.
"So, what do we do now?" Henry asks.
My eyes widen. "I haven't gotten that far yet. But I know that we can't stay in the wreck forever."
He nods understandingly. "Well, is there somewhere we could go?"
I think for a moment. "My sister's! She would know what to do! She's dealt with this before."
