a/n: italicized text (not in character speech), is narration by jughead. this is kind of an au where nothing on the show happened but it's still set in the same place and the characters are there.
Riverdale High, where all the craziness in town lived.. There's really nothing much to say besides the fact that everything, everything was a wild rollercoaster ride. Everything.
"Hey, Betty! Wait up!" Archie called after his best friend as he slammed his locker shut and jogged to catch up to her.
"Hey, what's up?" The blonde responded, walking into the cafeteria and wincing at the loudness.
"Uh, listen, I need a favor.. It might seem a bit weird but I just don't know who else to ask." Archie spoke, slightly hesitant until a random girl tried to hug him when he glanced behind them.
"Sure, what is it?" Betty asked as she grabbed a red lunch tray and stood behind a line of people, waiting.
"I need you to be my girlfriend." Archie spoke, causing Betty to almost choke on her own spit.
"What?" She coughed out, "Can't you just Cheryl or someone else? You know I don't like you like that."
"I know, I know." He replied, running a hand through his messy hair, "Just.. Please? You're the only one I know that wouldn't spill on it. Besides, everyone else is clingy."
"Archie—" Betty started, grabbing a plate of pasta and placing it on her tray, "—I'm honored you decided to ask me, but I really don't think it'll seem realistic."
"Come on, it can be the cliché best friends falling for each other." Betty rolled her eyes as she heard the words leave Archie's mouth.
"That's so stupid, no one's going to believe that bullshit." She replied, grabbing a bottle of water and a bowl of jello.
"Please?" Archie pleaded, grabbing a slice of pizza and placing it onto his tray, "Betty.."
"Okay, okay." Betty spoke, sighing, "I'll do it. But if Jughead asks at all, I was forced into this situation under my will."
"I—what?" Archie asked, his brows furrowed in confusion, "Whatever, deal."
"Okay, so when do we start?" Betty asked, walking over to the cash register as Archie grabbed a bag of chips and a banana from the side stands.
"Today." Archie spoke, "I have everything planned out, just follow my lead when it happens."
"So you're not going to tell me the plan?" Betty asked, eyebrow raised as she waited by the register, where Archie was now at.
"Nope, element of surprise is key for this to seem real." Archie replied, leaving the register and following Betty to their table.
"Okay, then.." Betty replied as she watch Archie dig into his lunch, hungrily, "Ew, slow down. That's just gross."
"What?" Archie asked, a mouthful of pizza stuffed into his mouth, and tomato sauce on his cheek.
"Ugh, never mind. I can't even..." Betty muttered as she took her fork and stabbed a piece of her Alfredo chicken pasta.
"Betty Cooper." Archie yelled out, making the said female turn around, "I've always liked you and I know friendship is important but I think we have something more. Will you please go out with me?"
Betty's jaw dropped, she had completely forgotten about the entire plan—probably because she was never told what it was in the first place.
"I—uh, yes." Betty stuttered before she was lifted into her best friend's arms.
There was a handful of cheers and several "boos" from jealous girls glaring at the blonde haired girl.
"You really owe me." Betty harshly whispered into Archie's ear as he set her down.
"I know." He whispered back so lowly that he barely heard himself.
They were both lounging around on a couch in the library, talking quietly about the final plan of how they were going to announce them being a couple.
As soon as Betty's mouth opened with a plan, it closed as she watched as Veronica Lodge, your basic popular rich girl, waltz in as if she owned the place.
The Latina walked up right to them, standing tall and confident, before rolling her eyes as soon as she saw Archie.
"Such a great show today, Archiekins. But just so you know.. your relationship is so fake. I know when things are faux." Veronica laughed bitterly at the two so-called-lovers sitting in front of her, "My father being the cause of Jason Blossom's death would be more believable over you two being together."
"Why can't you just leave us alone, Veronica? What have we ever done to you?" Betty asked, annoyed as her blue crystal orbs glared up at the Latina.
"I don't know if you've realized, but where ever drama goes.. I follow." Veronica replied before dramatically turning around and exiting the room.
"Wow, talk about a drama queen." Archie spoke as she left.
"You said it, although she could never top Cheryl's annoyingness." Betty spoke, nudging her head towards the redheaded girl sitting several feet away from them, flipping through a magazine.
"Eh.. I'd call it a tie. I feel bad for whoever the end up with, honestly." Archie replied, yawning, "I think I'm going to head home. With music, sports, and helping my dad out with his company, I haven't gotten much sleep lately."
"Alright, see you tomorrow." Betty replied, waving as he picked up his backpack and left after giving out a quick wave.
