The instance both men of the Andrews family entered the privacy of their own house, Fred immediately turned to Archie with a furious look.
"What did I tell you, son? Stay the fuck away from the Lodges, goddammit!" Fred's skin slowly became red the more angry he got.
"You don't understand, dad. Veronica's special — she's not like her parents. Just because you and her parents went through some argument that you couldn't agree on doesn't mean you can say Veronica is a bad person, too." Archie spoke, defending Veronica without any hesitation.
"Any child brought up by parents like hers will be nothing than an ungrateful brat who believes they can get whatever they want by manipulating people. You're dating Betty, Veronica is only going to ruin that." Fred watched as Archie rolled his eyes at the mention of their neighbor's youngest daughter and frowned, "You are dating Betty Cooper, correct?"
"I, uh, not exactly.." Archie trailed off, rubbing the back of his neck as he stared down at the carpeted floor.
Watching as his father raise a brow at his son disapprovingly, he directed his glance back down to the floor.
"I'm kinda with Veronica.. not that she would even want to see my face anymore." Archie spoke quietly, mumbling the last part as he felt previous emotions take over his thoughts.
"Son, I—"
"—that's it, dad. I don't want to know what you think because I know you wouldn't approve. But Veronica gets me more than anyone else. She's one of the most thoughtful people I know, if not the most thoughtful of all people." Archie slowly inched towards climbing up the stairs to escape the awkward discussion and go off to his bedroom.
"You're making a mistake." Fred shook his head, sighing.
"Then that's my mistake to make." Archie replied, walking off before giving his father any time to reply.
As Archie entered his room, he instantly shut the door and locked it. Sighing as he walked over to his bed and sat down.
He pulled out his phone and ignored all messages and went straight into her message tab, he needed to see her.
Archie pocketed his phone and glanced at the digital clock set on his nightstand. He quickly switched all alarms to off and walked over to his window. This would be his only chance to show Veronica that their relationship was worth it, if she even showed at this point.
Glancing at the clock on his smart watch he sighed. 5:47 PM.
"I guess we didn't mean anything." Archie mumbled to himself as he slapped his hand over the watch to put it to sleep.
Getting up from the bench he began to head towards the exit of the park, stopping as he saw a limo pull up near the entrance.
Archie watched as the girl he cared so deeply for walk over to him, feeling overtaken by all the emotions he had managed to get under control previously.
"Sorry I'm late." Veronica spoke simply, her heart breaking when she looked up and saw his face, "Archie.."
Tears of her own started to fall as she wrapped her arms around the redhead.
"I can't lose you, Ronnie." Archie whispered into her hair, "Please don't leave me."
"You know we can't be together, Archie." Veronica replied, attempting to pull away before she completely broke down in front of him.
Archie tightened his hold on her and pulled her closer.
"Archie, you have to let go." She whispered, scared that he'd comply with what her mind was telling her was the right decision.
"I can't."
He pulled back from her slightly, before kissing her passionately unlike any of the other kisses they've ever shared.
"Archie.." She breathlessly let out, "We can't, everyone would—"
"Veronica, I don't care what other people are going to say. You matter to me and I'm not going to let you go. I've never felt this way about anyone else, you understand me more than anyone else."
"I.." Veronica trailed off, closing her eyes as she registered what Archie had just said.
"If you don't care about me or care about us then tell me, because I'm not going to stop fighting for us as long as we both want this."
He watched as she shifted nervously, her brown eyes looking around the park to avoid eye contact with him.
"I'm sorry for wasting your time." Archie spoke in defeat, "I'll see you around."
Archie walked towards the same exit he had before and as he was about to step out towards the street, he felt a hand pull him back.
"Archie!" Veronica's hair was messy from the wind, yet she could still pull off the look, "I'm sorry, I just froze and I didn't know what to say and—"
She was cut off as Archie kissed her, pulling away momentarily after, "It's okay."
They were fine in the midst of the moment, but the real question is would they last? Riverdale's most unlikely couple, and possibly the most hated once they'd go public. Betty Cooper would be given all the pity and Veronica would be glared upon, they both knew it yet they both loved each other. It was just eight letters that they weren't ready to say to each other, yet already felt.
