Alex woke up after sometime. A doctor approached him and asked,"Mr. Alex?". He nodded. " I'm sorry but by the time the ambulance arrived too much blood had been lost. I'm sorry for your lose", the doctor said as he adjusted his glasses and left. He quickly left the hospital and went to an unknown destination. The weather too felt different. It was now a cold crisp winter's night.
Alex Martin Jr was walking down a road; his tall black silhouette cast shadows from the artificial amber glow of streetlamps. His breath formed swirls of mist with ever exhalation and he decided to slide his exposed hands into his pocket to retain some warmth. The street was empty at this time and his footsteps echoed up and down around him, only interrupted by the cruising hum of a taxi driving past. He wasn't totally alone after all. Alex had time to think on this journey about what had happened in the morning.
The events had played in his head so many times over that he could not trust their accuracy, or if his own perceptions had rewritten how the events had unfolded. Any way one thing was sure, his wife, Park Anna(breaking the serious mood here... anyone get that reference? Park Jimin? No? Okay I'll continue the story.) was dead.
A painful stab of recollection shot through Alex's brain, as if it was forcing itself through a wall he had built to protect himself. He saw it again. The dead lifeless body in the darkness, the blood. The blood was the most vivid memory of all. Alex had somehow found himself collapsed in a corner, unable to move, but out of the corner of his eye he saw the pool of blood and the white marble floor.
Alex arrived home. It felt wrong. Opening the door to the house, the usual bright colours of his possessions seemed inappropriate, disrespectful even. How could anything dare be this bright at a time like this? He turned of his lights and collapsed on his brown moldy couch.
Sleep.
The next day was to be Anna's funeral. Alex had no interest of going. His relationship with Anna was personal and not something he wanted to share with his family nor friends who would mean well but insult with every word of comfort. He decided that even if he had to attend the funeral physically, his ind would be in a world of his own.
Alex remained silent and stoic through the service. People left to return to their lives, the relatives trading condolences, leaving Alex alone in the room with the coffin. He didn't want to look - it would be real if he saw. He wanted to run away as fast as he could from this nightmare but he had to see. Alex strode over and gazed into the box. Lifeless. Even with Anna's typically pale skin you could see a warm glow of life within. Now nothing remained but a sickly pale green colour of death.
Alex went to turn away, to walk out of the room into life where everything so familiar was gone, something grabbed his wrist.
"Don't go, it's okay.". Alex turned to see the same pale skin he had burned into his memory gripping at his shirt.
He looked up slowly to see his dead Juliet bolt upright. Alex ran. Not stopping to blink, breathe or process a single thought he sprinted out of the back exit and all the way across the grounds of the building to underneath a tree. He vomited. He was hysterical. He tried rationalize the thoughts in his head as his eyes shook to distress.
"Alex stop running I'm not going to hurt you.".
He spun around to see Anna, standing upright as if completely fine with his hands forward as if anticipating Alex's irrational behavior. "You can't, I mean, this cant be real," Alex said, grasping behind his back to try and hold onto the tree as if it was tether to reality
"You know I'm real, Alex, this is real and i think you know why.""No!", Alex shouted and pushes Anna backwards in utter disbelief. Anna grabbed Alex's wrists and pinned him against the tree. Alex could feel the sharper edges of the tree prodding uncomfortably into his back as if the tree itself was pushing him towards the nightmare. "It was a vampire.". The words penetrated into Alex's skull and seemed to pull down on his soul as if everything he had been trying to believe was a lie. "I don't know how, or if that's exactly what it is, but it explains it well enough," Anna said in a calmer ton, clearly aware of Alex's slow realization.
"You aren't the real Anna," Alex said in a flat, emotionless tone. His head bowed and in in Anna's grip Alex wan't trying to resist anymore. "If what you're saying is true, you aren't the real Anna. You're just a monster possessing her body." He looks up straight into Anna's eyes. He saw, emptiness. He must be right.
Anna stared back at Alex seeing his brown iris blazing with fury. Anna let her grip loosen for a second. Alex realized and swung a punch to her jaw as tears escaped his eyes. Anna reached for her lip. Blood. "I won't lie."
Anna stopped closer until their noses touched and looked at Alex directly in the eyes: "I could kill you. Every fiber of my body is urging me to tilt your head back and bite your neck, but i can choose not to."
"What?!" Alex said, spitting out warmth.
"I don't want to kill you i want you to join me."
Alex felt his heart drop in pressure. An overwhelming stillness waved through his body until he was stunned with silence. "P-please no." Alex stuttered.
Just then Alex noticed a man who must be the groundskeeper walking by in a distance. Alex made his choice and he knew it was the right one. "HELP!", Alex shouted shaking as hard as he could, causing Anna to almost loosen her grip. "She's trying to ki-"
Then he felt it. Two sharp stabs pierced into his neck. He had lost. His vision faded to black.
In the darkness Alex heard someone calling out to him.
