Recap from chapter 5: J kissed me.

Chapter 6: I tried pushing him off of me. I inhaled deeply within the kisses, because he wouldn't stop. I finally managed to push him off of me. He was crushing my ribs.

He got off of me and we didn't say anything.

It was my first kiss.

"I'm sorry," J said after seeing that I was hurling in pain.

"What's wrong with your ribs?"

"Nothing"

He lifted up my shirt.

I winced when I saw a large swollen blue and purple bruise on one of my ribs.

"Its broken"

He gently pressed on it.

I winced again.

"How did this happen? Did I do it? I'm so sorry!" he said.

"No, you didn't do it." I left it at that.

It had finally stopped snowing.

Then I realized that we were still lying in the snow next to each other.

"We have to get moving. We have to get into a shelter," I reminded J.

"Calm down. I've been walking since last night. There's nothing out here," J said, almost as if he was giving up.

"What time is it?"

"Probably noon to five o-clock. Maybe. Why?"

"I've been walking since morning and I made it here. Let's just walk back that way," I said. Wait no, we couldn't go back to my neighborhood! What was I thinking?

J stood up, "Okay let's go! Which way? Can you see?"

I tried to remember where I came from, maybe we could go to one of the houses back there. But not my papa's house.

I decided that I did not want to go back to my papa.

I decided that as soon as I met J.

I saw a big pine tree that I remembered seeing before. We would go in that direction.

We started walking towards the neighborhoods.

After about 10 minutes of walking, J picked me right up. He cradled me bride style, giggling.

I must have fallen asleep in his arms and he set me down, because I awoke on the ground.

There wasn't much snow where I woke. J was looking at me from on top of a log.

It was dark outside. Was it even the same day, i wondered?

After a while, J asked me, "Are you hungry?"

"No," I lied, right as my stomach growled. I haven't eaten since the night before, and that was only gruel.

"Here," he said, handing me a handful of berries.

I shoved half of them into my mouth and gave the rest to him.

Hopefully they weren't poisonous.
