Along with her twin, Nathibar, Tiyamah ruled over the waters of the earth and contributed more than any other to the beauty of the Mother. Tiyamah's domain was the great and mysterious seas, and with the help of Udana, she kept the oceans a safe and peaceful realm for the creatures that live within it and the Secondborn that lived on its shores.
It is said that the Ocean Mother took great pleasure in swimming through her watery domains in the form of a magnificent sea serpent, until she was ensnared (figuratively and literally) in the net of the fisherman Pellaeon. Tiyamah taught her beloved the art of building wooden ships and how to sail the seas alongside of her. Their children would go on to form a mighty kingdom that ruled the ancient seas, having the first armada in the history of the world. In spite of their power, however, the sea masters could not survive Elberon's Tears aboard their ships and only one of their numbers survived-the Wavedancer.
With Tiyamah's fall came the end of the peaceful seas. Though Udana's power keeps the tides from claiming those who live on the costal shores, the oceans are now very treacherous. Not even Naphalei blessed to be among the water kindred are truly safe from the storms that now rage on account of Tiyamah's empty throne.
